Best Property Dealers in Gurgaon

Best property dealers are available in Gurgaon for anyone interested to buy or sell properties. Indeed, Gurgaon is a place where real estate agents, consultants, developers, infrastructure construction companies and investment companies are found in greater concentration than in the neighboring centres. The region is poised for fast development. It is estimated by industry veterans that there is an unprecedented pace of growth in the region in the recent years. Estimably, an annual 25 to 30 per cent growth is happening in the city. A myriad of factors are contributory to the development of the region. As an inalienable component of this growth factor, property dealers play a vital role in the development of Gurgaon.

Most of the property dealers in Gurgaon are stationed in the city. If you are a prospective buyer of any property, you need to be very wary in your dealings. This is because there are reportedly some unscrupulous elements operating among property dealers. They are habitual fraudsters functioning under the guise of property dealing. As you are a buyer, often you may be an outsider and hence not conversant with the local market conditions. There are chances that you may fall prey to these conmen. Hence, it is always advisable to get the help of some reliable friend or acquaintance in the locality before striking any deal. However, the majority of realtors in Gurgaon comply with sound business principles.

AUGUSTA

The Four Major Golf Tournaments

It is important to note that the top four major tournaments in golf are often considered the most prestigious in the game. Interestingly, victory in such tournaments does not imply a winning the largest amount of money placed in dollar tournaments. The most coveted of these golf tournaments is the prestige associated with any single win. In a grand slam, a person wins all the four titles within the same year.

The Masters
This is one of the world's most prestigious tournaments played in the United States of America, at the Augusta national. This is an exclusive country club famed for its level of strictness concerning membership. This tournament is often played in April, and it has made a name for itself as the only major tournament played in the same course each year. Tiger woods won the tournament in 2005, while Phil Mickelson has won it this year, and the latter is the current world record holder in relation to winning many tournaments. This is usually the first of all the four major tournaments and it is played in the entire first week of April.

AUGUSTA

The U.S Open
This is one of the major tournaments played in various courses throughout the year. One of the most outstanding attributes of this tournament is the fact that it has the highest level of difficulty. Staged in mid-June by the United States Golf Association, this tournament is often designed in such a way that the final round ought to be played on father's day. The field in this tournament often allows for 156 players, though about half of these are often seasoned players who are exempt from qualifying. This is due to the previous titles that they have held.

British open
This is the only major golf tournament often played outside the US, as it is often played in one of the historic golf courses in either Scotland or England. The first one was played in 1860 in Scotland. Generally, the tournament is played on the third Friday of July. This year's golf tournament was characterized by the winner walking away with 850,000 sterling pounds, considering that it has received a prize fund of 4.8 million sterling pounds. Tiger Woods won the tournament in 2005, in Scotland.

PGA Championship
Played in different golf courses each year, this is one tournament in which the winner is often rewarded with various benefits. This tournament is usually played in Mid-August. It has been baptized as "Glory's last shot" and was credited for a purse totaling to .5 million in 2008. A win in this tournament guarantees a golfer a secure career, in case he is not one of the best placed in the sport. A winner in this tournament automatically qualifies for the other three major championships for a period of five years. Most interesting is that the winner also gets a lifelong ticket to all other PGA championships. An invitation to the Players Championship for five years is also awarded to the winner of this category.

5 Big Benefits of Vinyl Siding

Are you planning to buy siding for your home? While you have several types to choose from, one of the most popular varieties in vinyl siding. That's because this type of siding actually provides several benefits over other types of siding. Here are some of the most crucial benefits of siding made of vinyl:

1. Appearance
Do you want vinyl siding of a particular hue or texture? In all likelihood, you can find the perfect siding, which meets your preferences. For instance, you can find such siding made of virtually ever color of the rainbow. That will make it a cinch to complement any color schemes of your house's exterior. You can also find which is made from vinyl, which has the appearance of wood grains. That will allow you to enjoy the appearance of wood siding, without the traditional drawbacks that it has.

AUGUSTA

2. Maintenance
While new siding won't require maintenance, those made of certain materials may require it as the siding becomes older. Well, you'll be pleased to learn that siding made from vinyl is low-maintenance. To wash it, just break out your garden hose once every six months, in order to rinse it down. And unlike other types of siding, you'll never have to paint vinyl siding. That can save you a ton of time, money, and effort. Just imagine the hassles involved with climbing up a ladder in order to paint every inch of your siding-and then needing to do it again after a few years!

3. Price
Yet another major benefit of siding made from vinyl is that the price is right. Yes, you'll need to make the initial investment of purchasing the siding. But consider that vinyl itself is quite inexpensive. You should also keep in mind that since siding made from vinyl is low-maintenance, there will be few expenses needed for the siding's upkeep. That can be an especially welcome advantage if you're on a shoestring budget.

4. Sturdiness
This is definitely one of the most important features to look for when shopping for siding. That's because siding (such as vinyl siding) will be constantly exposed to the elements. And that can be a particularly serious issue if you live in a location where extreme temperatures are common. In fact, the newer types of siding made from vinyl are even more durable than their predecessors were! As a result, you can have peace-of-mind knowing that your siding won't dent if it's hit with a baseball, and it won't disintegrate if outdoor temperatures become extremely high or low.

5. Appearance
Do you want vinyl siding of a particular hue or texture? In all likelihood, you can find the perfect siding made of vinyl, which meets your preferences. For instance, you can find such siding made of virtually ever color of the rainbow-that will make it a cinch to complement any color schemes of your house's exterior. You can also find siding made from vinyl, which has the appearance of wood grains. That will allow you to enjoy the appearance of wood siding, without the traditional drawbacks that it has.

Without a doubt, siding made from vinyl is one of your best options. Before choosing a particular siding material, consider these big benefits of siding produced using vinyl.

iBooks Store - Changing the Way the World Reads Books

Make no mistake, the iPad and its brethren from Amazon and Barnes and Noble are changing the way people read books. Gone are the days of going to the bookstore and rummaging through the shelves only to find a book that is labeled as new, but looks like it has been read 100 times before.

barnes and noble nook

Sure the local bookstore still has its merits. They have good coffee, nice chairs to lounge around in, and they usually have a section with every magazine under the sun. But is the landscape of the brick and mortar bookstore changing? In my opinion no not really, but I think some adaptation is on the horizon. The bookstore of the future will have to adapt to the new style "iBooks Store" business model. Perhaps bookstores of the future will offer a 2 tier type of service. Follow me on this for a second.

BARNES AND NOBLE

My wife loves to read. However, she refuses to use an eBook reader. Hardbacks are what she likes. Says it gives her the feeling that you are "getting what you paid for" so to speak. I can follow her on that. There is something about holding a physical book in your hands. Once you are done throw it on a shelf to show everyone that you actually finished a book like War and Peace is a big accomplishment. I, on the other hand couldn't care less about a physical book, and actually I would love to save the shelf space for more important things like my Star Wars collection. I am a technology nut by nature, so having my book collection in a virtual format is just fine with me. Plus I am able to find twice as many publications via online services than I have ever found in a physical book store.

So, what will the future hold for Barnes and Noble and the like? This is tough to speculate on, but I see perhaps a 2 prong approach to selling books. Amazon already has its Kindle app for iPad and other eReaders, but this app lacks features in many ways. Apple has their iBooks app, which is really nice, but the books are so expensive they rival physical book prices, which to me is highway robbery.

The bookstore of the future will need to please the techno savvy book reader as well as the old school types like my wife, who love the feeling of having an actual book in their hand. But how will they accomplish this?

What if bookstores offered a way to sit down in a nice chair, sip some Colombian coffee, and browse an online database of books available to download right to your eReader on the spot? I would love to see this type of services available in bookstores to the general public. I think will allow them to compete with online services like Apple's iBooks app, and Amazons kindle app for all eReaders. Finding a middle ground of selling cheap books in digital format, and also selling the physical books for the old schoolers out there will be the key to staying in business.

The Four Golf Majors

Looking at the biggest competitions in golf, there is no doubt that the four golf majors stand head and shoulders above the rest, and are rivaled only by the biannual Ryder Cup, which is a very different beast. These golfing majors are the most prestigious and desired of competitions that every golfer wants to win, because a victory serves as the guarantee of being written into the annals of golf history.

Of these majors, three are played in the USA, with the Open Championship being the exception, which is always played in the UK. Here's a look at what each of the four golf majors is, and how it fits into the golfing calendar.

AUGUSTA

The Masters

The Masters is the only one of the major tournaments that is played at the same course every year, and is the first major of the year which always takes place at the Augusta National golf club. The tournament always takes place in the first four weeks of April, and is well-known for its fast and challenging greens, which the course designers are always trying to ensure remain a healthy challenge.

The Masters is particularly keen to promote the inclusion of amateur players, with amateurs who have won the most prestigious amateur tournaments worldwide being invited. But the winner who has won The Masters most often is the ultimate pro, Jack Nicklaus, racking up six victories between 1963 and 1986, who is also the winner of the most combined victories from the four golf majors. The current champion is South African Charl Schwartzel.

The US Open

The second of the four golf majors is the US Open which is held at courses around the USA in June. The US Open insists that the course is made particularly difficult for the players, with a below par score being a particular achievement, and with a great benefit to be gained from good driving, with rough being cut quite long.

There are four golfers who have won the tournament four times: Willie Anderson between 1901 and 1905, Bobby Jones between 1923 and 1930, Ben Hogan between 1948 and 1953, and most recently, the great Jack Nicklaus between 1962 and 1980. The current champion is Rory McIlroy, who smashed many records in the 2011 US Open, completing four rounds of golf in 268 shots, at sixteen under par.

The Open Championship

The Open Championship is the only one of the four golf majors held in the UK every year, and rotates around nine golf clubs in the country being played on the third Friday in July every year. The Old Course at St Andrews hosts the Open Championship every five years, with the other eight courses hosting the event once every ten years.

Englishman Harry Vardon has won more Open Championships than any other golfers, with six victories between 1896 and 1914. The current champion is South African Louis Oosthuizen.

The PGA Championship

The last of the four golf majors every year is the PGA Championship, which is always played the fourth weekend after the Open Championship. This is the last of the four golf majors every year, and is played at one of the great American golf courses, moving from course to course every year.

Americans Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus have both won the PGA Championship five times each, with the current champion being German Martin Kaymer.

Cheap Ebook Readers - Kindle Versus Nook

But while there are a number of ebook reader brands, the major players can only be narrowed down to Amazon Kindle and Barnes&Noble Nook.

BARNES AND NOBLE

So, how does one stack against the other?

The Price

The cheapest price for a brand new Nook wireless is 9 while that of a brand new Kindle wireless is around 9. While the dollar difference might make the Kindle the obvious choice for bargain hunters, there are some things about the book that might sway you in its favor.

Nook Features

Said to be the best in its class, Nook use a 16-level grayscale display that lets you read an ebook as if it were a newly printed paperback. Nook is actually touted the best in its class by the G4, 2010 Consumer Electronics Show. Unlike the Kindle, you can view book covers in color.

But what makes the Nook ebook really unique is its Exclusive LendMe™ Technology. You can lend books to your books for up to 14 days to any Nook, computer, or Nook-enabled handheld device.

Wi-Fi enabled, you can use access free Wi-Fi by going into a Barnes&Noble store and at any AT&T Wi-Fi hostpot.

Kindle Features

Weighing in at only 8.5 pounds, you can read comfortably for hours with the Kindle with only one hand, although it isn't as much as fun as Nook in being able to view book covers in color.

The new generation Kindle automatically detects any Wi-Fi hotspots and can get you connected to the Amazon Kindle store, that is, if you have a username and password. It edges the Nook in terms of battery life, which can last 3 weeks to one month depending on whether you turn on the Wi-Fi or not.

Is the Masters Only the 2nd Most Prestigious Golf Major?

April 2009 saw the Spaniard Angel Cabreras win the Masters golf tournament at the Augusta golf course. The Masters is one of the 4 'major' golf tournaments held each year, and I think it sits 2nd in the list of prestige. Here's why...

As a top level golfer, and by that I mean world class, you are expected to win some major tournaments. In fact a golfer's career is often defined by the number of major wins, and not to win any would be a sign of not quite fulfilling potential. The great Jack Nicklaus won 18 majors, which is an almost unreal amount, but Tiger Woods is hot on his trail with 12 so far.

AUGUSTA

Apart from the Masters, the other 3 majors are the US Open, the USPGA, and the British Open. I think the Masters sits 2nd in prestige as it is in my view behind the British Open. The game is British invented, in Scotland and the British Open is just called The Open because it has so much tradition. A lot of American golfing fraternity do not like the British Open as it is always played on coastal links courses, but if you ask any world class American golfer which major they'd like if they only were allowed one, and it would probably be the British Open.

I think the US Open comes 3rd in the list, because it does not have the imagery of the Masters. The Masters has the famous green jacket given to the winner and it's always played on the Augusta course with its' famously fast greens.

The US Open is in effect 'just another open'.

The USPGA definitely comes last of the list. If it weren't classed as a major, no-one would give it much attention. It has no traditional appeal to it, other than to win it gives a golfer a major win, and that's why it can't be viewed as anything other than making up the numbers.

Personal views these of course, but that's why I think the Masters is only the 2nd most prestigious golf major.

Coping With Cancer Pain

Patients with advanced cancer often have pain as their chief complaint. Although advances in cancer treatment have lengthened survival among cancer patients, cancer pain remains under treated in patients.

It has been estimated that 25% of all cancer patients who die, do so without adequate pain relief, despite the fact that the tools for adequate pain control are available. With advanced disease, 90% of patients with cancer require strong opiates to control their pain.

AUGUSTA GA

However, many physicians remain concerned about inadvertently making a patient an addict if they prescribe narcotics to treat pain. Cultural and attitudinal barriers, knowledge deficits among health care professionals, and the influence of state and federal drug regulatory agencies also contribute to the fact that the pain experienced by cancer patients, all too often, is under-treated.

Cancer pain is classified according to pain duration and quality. Duration of pain can denote the acute or chronic nature of pain. It is common to experience anxiety, apprehension and depression in patients with cancer pain. The types of pain most commonly experienced by cancer patients are:

Acute cancer related pain

Chronic cancer related pain

Pain unrelated to cancer

Pain in opiod tolerant cancer patients

End of life pain

After an appropriate medical history review and a physical, a pain physician will tailor a suitable pain treatment program. Because everyone has a different response to medications and therapies, the other types of drugs with pain relievers. They include anti-inflammatory steroids, anticonvulsants, and antidepressants. These drugs may be effective treatments for specific types of pain or pain with specific causes.

For example, the doctor may prescribe antidepressants to help relieve certain types of pain. However, it doesn't necessarily mean that the patient is suffering from depression. Similarly, steroids often are effective in relieving pain associated with inflammation.

Cancer pain can be controlled effectively through therapies already available today. Pain treatments range from mild, nonprescription pain relievers, to stronger prescription medications, to neurological surgery, to alternative therapies such as relaxation, biofeedback, guided imagery, and acupuncture.

Oncologists and pain specialists can devise a treatment plan based on the type and severity of pain, side effects, and how the patient responds to the treatment. Some common approaches to treat cancer pain include:

1. Oral Medicines- Aspirin & NSAIDs, Opiods, Adjuvants

2. Intravenous drugs

3. Transdermal drug delivery systems

4. Nerve blocks

5. Interthecal drug pumps

6. Neuroablstive procedures

Although they have cancer pain, many patients are afraid of getting addicted to pain medicines. When cancer pain medicines are given and taken in the right way, patients rarely become addicted to them. To be sure, they should talk to the doctor, nurse, or pharmacist about how to use pain medications safely.

Many patients only need pain medicines for a time, until the cause of the pain goes away due to other treatments like chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery. When they are ready to stop taking the medicine, the doctor gradually lowers the amount of medicine they take. By the time they stop using it completely, the body has had time to adjust. Some patients will need to take pain medicines for the long-term. Taking medicines regularly should not make patients feel like an "addict."

Physical dependence, tolerance to medication and addiction are three different issues in people treated with strong pain medications. The patient's physician can explain the subtle but important difference between them. It's often easier to control pain in its early stages, because it becomes severe. Therefore, it is better for cancer pain patients to ask for adequate pain relief.

A primary care physician or oncologist can help explain the possible options for pain relief and can make a referral, when necessary, to a pain medicine specialist for optimal pain management.

Top Myrtle Beach Golf Courses

Myrtle Beach has without question, some of the best golfing in the country and even the world, and with over 100 options, it can be difficult to decide. Here we have a few top Myrtle Beach golf courses to make things run a bit more smoothly.

For a scenic, upscale course related closely to its Scottish namesake the Prestwick Country Club provides deep sand bunkers across a natural dune filled field framed by native pine, oaks, and dogwood trees. The course is designed by Pete Dye, who received a 4.5 star rating for the course from Gofer's Digest for the naturally challenging terrain, and 50-acre lake that sits between the 9th and 18th holes. Prestwick also received the best hospitality award in 2006, for their stunning restaurant and club where you can unwind after a tough day of golf.

Indigo Creek, another exciting course just south of Myrtle Beach, away from the crowds, boasts lakes, marshes, waste bunkers, and beautiful, vast greens. Willard Byrd chose the site for its scenic marsh, set in the "Grand Strand" low country plantations, and won "Best New Course" at its inception in 1990. Par is 72, but the braver ones may challenge "Golf Master Jim" who holds a 62 record on the course. The club and restaurant offer a number of choices for meal or quick snack.

For stunning views and an enjoyable, player friendly experience, one would be hard pressed to find a course more suitable than Sea Trail. Another Willard Byrd course, it is known best for wide easy fairways, roll it on pitch, dogleg holes, and the occasional sand bunker. Playing here also means you may use all 3 courses for one reduced rate, which, as any golfer knows, can make all the difference. If you wish to practice, there are driving ranges, putting greens, and a designated area to practice sand and chipping. The clubhouse is known for it full service restaurant, and friendly staff, while the locker rooms offer showers and other amenities to get ready for a delicious meal at one of Myrtle Beach's award winning restaurants. One of the other Sea Trail Courses, designed by Reese Jones is tricky, but known for large greens, and even larger waste bunkers, which makes the course ideal for those who enjoy chipping around a green as opposed to straight shots, as well as more than enough chances to blast the ball out of the sand.

Regardless which course you choose, Sea Trail or otherwise, Myrtle Beach has literally over 100 different choices just to make your golf vacation as enjoyable, or challenging, as it can be!

Calculating Child Support - An Overview

With the estimated cost to raise a child hovering around 0,000 according to some sources, Georgia courts have been vigilant in enforcing child support laws. In 2007, the new Georgia laws went into effect based on the "shared income" model that had been adopted by other states. In short, if the mother, in this case the custodial parent, makes ,000 a month and the father makes ,000 a month, the father would be responsible for 80 percent of the child's expenses.

The changes were made to equal the playing field between parents. For example, even if the mother (the custodial) parent, made more than the father, often he would still be forced to pay a large amount of support based on his income since hers was not considered. By including the income of both parents, lawmakers hoped the cost of raising the child would be shared more equally by both parents.

AUGUSTA GA

Determining Child Support for Divorcing Parents

When going through a divorce, both parents will fill out a worksheet and schedule.

The parents will provide several documents to the court to determine the amount to be paid, including but not limited to:

o Proof of income which could include paycheck stubs or income tax returns

o Estimated medical and day care costs

o Health insurance options for the child

o Special expenses (summer camps, extracurricular activities)

o A personal budget showing the parent's other expenses.

The support amount will be set by the judge based on the reports and the Georgia Superior Court guidelines. Payments are made through payroll deduction in most cases. The payments are made to the Georgia Family Support Registry.

What Happens If a Parent Doesn't Pay?

Failure to pay is considered contempt of court. The state has several ways to collect back payments including:

o Seizing the parent's tax refunds

o Placing a lien on bank accounts

o Intercepting lottery winnings

o Revoking driver's license

o Reporting the arrears to the credit bureau

o In extreme cases, the parent may be jailed for failure to pay child support.

Paternity and Child Support

Mothers who were never married to their child's father will have to establish paternity before child support can be collected unless the father signed a voluntary paternity agreement. In some cases, these fathers must be located. A DNA test can be conducted by the Georgia Office of Child Support Services. If it is determined that the man is the father or cannot be excluded as the father, the mother can file a case for support with the state's child support office. Finally, fathers are not the only ones who are required to pay child support. Mothers who do not have custody are also required to support their children financially.

Child of a Dead God - A Novel of the Noble Dead

Fantasy and magic blend with vampire lore in "Child of a Dead God" by Barb Hendee & J.C. Hendee. It's the sixth and final book in the Noble Dead series. Each book furthers the narrative and yet can stand alone as a complete story, but readers will enjoy the adventure more by starting with book one, "Dhampir."

barnes and noble tablet

The Dhampir, Magiere, a woman who is half human and half vampire is on an obsessive quest to retrieve a mysterious artifact. She is accompanied by her companion, Leesil, a half-blooded elf and a small band of allies. Magiere's dreams tell her to go south where she will find the object in an ice bound castle. She must keep it from her vampire half-brother, Welstiel, one of the murdering Noble Dead. But Welstiel has created undead ferals to serve as his minions and they follow Magiere knowing she will lead them to the castle and the orb he believes will take away his hunger for blood. Another group also follows her. The Elven patriarch, Most Aged Father, offers her help but plans to steal the orb later. Conflict is inevitable as all parties converge.

BARNES AND NOBLE

This is a dark fantasy with brilliantly conceived characters that face danger and inner conflict. Their world is vividly imagined and filled with treachery and violence. Readers get a real sense of being there and will find themselves on the edge of their seats. The secondary conflicts and sub-plots are often more interesting than the quest. The conclusion is anti-climactic with some unanswered questions but the saga continues in series two. Review - You Are Still Being Lied To

You Are Still Being Lied To, Russ Kick (ed.), 2009, ISBN 9781934708071

This is a remixed version of a previously published book, containing articles on a wide variety of topics that will not be covered in the mainstream media. There is something here to upset or offend nearly everyone.

AUGUSTA GA

Howard Zinn talks about the real Christopher Columbus. Alex Jones talks about the coming North American Union. There is a piece on John McCain and his attempts to cover up the POW issue from the Vietnam War. R. Crumb contributes a graphic novel piece on the religious experience of science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. Jim Marrs explores the reasons behind the attempts by the Iraqi Government to ban Blackwater. There is a piece on getting high by licking toads, along with a piece on the unconscious roots of the Drug War. Other contributions in this book reassess the "official" version of the Oklahoma City bombing, along with the cover-up of the murder of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

The titles of some of these articles are pretty self-explanatory. For instance, there is AA Lies (all about Alcoholics Anonymous); Amnesia in America; The Information Arms Race; The Truth About Corporations; Cheap, Crappy Food = A Fat Population; Chemicals Are Killing You; Drug War Mythology; We Were Silenced by the Drums of War; NutraFear and NutraLoathing in Augusta, Georgia; Pharmaceutical Crimes and Misdemeanors; The Martin Luther King You Don't See on TV and Fear and Lying in 2012-Land.

Like I said, there is something here for everyone. It does a really good job at exposing the reader to a number of different subjects. For anyone who wants to get past the mass media version of how the world works, and get the "real" story, start right here. It is highly recommended.

Motor Scooter Reviews - A Wide Range Of Brands

Back in the old days when motor scooters were not widely available, owning one was always a problem when it came to the availability of spares. Although scooters were available from foreign countries, the parts were not that easily available which made it difficult to own scooters. But now, with the wide range of brands available from many major companies, owning these vehicles is much easier today.

Immediate access to spare parts and service centers is one of the most crucial factors in owning any vehicle. But with the introduction of major scooter brands in the US, the likelihood of failure and repairs is getting extremely rare. Some of the major vehicle manufacturers from Japan like Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and Suzuki have come out with nice scooter models in the higher price range. Some of the best vehicle manufacturers in the world are naturally high, making the quality of these vehicles. Vespa scooters from Italy's Piaggio are another famous Italian brand, which has been around for so many decades.

AUGUSTA GA

People who prefer US brands can opt for Cushman motor scooters, which are made in Augusta Georgia. Textron, Inc, which is also the owner of other famous brands like the Cessna aircraft, and Bell Helicopters own the company. Cushman scooters were even used by the military instead of bigger automobiles and some of them can be seen in the war movies of yesteryears. These scooters have a long back as well as a long history.

More Asian brands from countries like Korea and Taiwan are becoming popular in the mid-range category. Although these are not high-end models like those from the Japanese manufacturers, these are moderately priced models which are good in quality and reliability as well. For people who are looking for functional models with a great price tag, models from these upcoming eastern countries would be an ideal choice.

The cheapest models of motor scooters are available from various companies in China. Some of these brands are good for the price at which they are available and others are mediocre at best. If some one is looking for a model at rock bottom prices that they can use for a couple of years before discarding, Chinese models would be quite suitable for the purpose.

Lord Byron's "She Walks in Beauty"

Lord Byron's opening couplet to "She Walks In Beauty" is among the most memorable and most quoted lines in romantic poetry. The opening lines are effortless, graceful, and beautiful, a fitting match for his poem about a woman who possesses effortless grace and beauty.

Life in England

AUGUSTA

Lord Byron was born George Gordon Noel Byron in London in 1788. He became a Lord in 1798 when he inherited the title and the estate of his great-uncle. Byron's mother had taken him to Scotland for treatment for his club foot, but she brought him back to England to claim the title and the estate.

Byron was privately tutored in Nottingham for a short period. He then studied in Harrow, Southwell, and Newstead, and finally at Trinity College. Byron discovered a talent for writing poetry and published some early poems in 1806 and his first collection, called Hours of Idleness, in 1807 at the age of 19. When he turned age 21 he was able to take his seat in the House of Lords.

However, Lord Byron left England for two years with his friend, John Hobhouse, to travel through Europe. They toured Spain, Malta, Greece, and Constantinople. Greece especially impressed Byron and would create a recurring theme in his life.

After returning to England Lord Byron made his first speech to the House of Lords. Later that year he published a "poetic travelogue" titled, Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, a respectable collection of verses about his recent travels in Europe. The collection earned Lord Byron lasting fame and admiration. Lord Byron had become a ladies' man and the newly earned celebrity brought him a series of affairs and courtships.

Lord Byron married Anna Isabella Milbanke in 1815 and his daughter, Augusta, was born later that year. However, the marriage did not last long. In early 1816 Anna and Augusta left Lord Byron and later that year he filed for legal separation and left England for Switzerland, a self-imposed exile.

Life in Europe

While in Switzerland Lord Byron stayed with Percy Bysshe Shelley, a prominent metaphysical and romantic poet, and had an illegitimate daughter, Allegra, with Claire Clairmont. After that affair ended, Lord Byron and his friend, John Hobhouse traveled through Italy, settling first in Venice, where he had a couple more affairs, including an affair with the nineteen year old Countess Teresa Guicciolo. Here Lord Byron began his most famous and most acclaimed work, the epic poem Don Juan.

Lord Byron and Teresa moved to Ravenna, then to Pisa, and then to Leghorn, near Shelley's house, in 1821. The poet Leigh Hunt moved in with Lord Byron later that year after Shelley drowned off the coast near Leghorn in a storm. Lord Byron contributed poetry to Hunt's periodical, The Liberal, until 1823 when he took the opportunity to travel to Greece to act as an agent for the Greeks in their war against Turkey.

Lord Byron used his personal finances to help fund some of the battles by the Greeks against the Turks. He even commanded a force of three thousand men in an attack on the Turkish-held fortress of Lepanto. The siege was unsuccessful and the forces withdrew. At this time Lord Byron suffered one or two epileptic fits. The remedy of the day, blood-letting, weakened him.

Six weeks later, during a particularly chilly rainstorm, Lord Byron contracted a severe cold. The accompanying fever was treated by repeated bleeding by trusted physicians, but his condition worsened until he eventually slipped into a coma and died on April 19, 1824.

Lord Byron was a hero in Greece and was deeply mourned there. His heart was buried in Greece and his body was sent to England where it was buried in the family vault near Newstead. He was denied burial in Westminster Abbey because of the perceived immorality of his life and numerous controversies. Finally in 1969, 145 years after his death, a memorial was placed in the Poets' Corner of Westminster Abbey, commemorating his poetry and accomplishments.

Shortly after his arrival in Greece, Lord Byron had written these appropriate lines.

"Seek out--less often sought than found--

A soldier's grave--for thee the best

Then look around, and choose thy ground,

And take thy rest."

An interesting and exceptional biography of Lord Byron's life was written in 1830 by a contemporary and friend, John Galt, titled, The Life of Lord Byron. The 49 chapters give a good measure of Lord Byron's complexity.

"She Walks in Beauty"

In June, 1814, several months before he met and married his first wife, Anna Milbanke, Lord Byron attended a party at Lady Sitwell's. While at the party, Lord Byron was inspired by the sight of his cousin, the beautiful Mrs. Wilmot, who was wearing a black spangled mourning dress. Lord Byron was struck by his cousin's dark hair and fair face, the mingling of various lights and shades. This became the essence of his poem about her.

According to his friend, James W. Webster, "I did take him to Lady Sitwell's party in Seymour Road. He there for the first time saw his cousin, the beautiful Mrs. Wilmot. When we returned to his rooms in Albany, he said little, but desired Fletcher to give him a tumbler of brandy, which he drank at once to Mrs. Wilmot's health, then retired to rest, and was, I heard afterwards, in a sad state all night. The next day he wrote those charming lines upon her--She walks in Beauty like the Night..."

The poem was published in 1815. Also in that year Lord Byron wrote a number of songs to be set to traditional Jewish tunes by Isaac Nathan. Lord Byron included "She Walks in Beauty" with those poems.

She Walks in Beauty

1

She walks in beauty, like the night

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;

And all that's best of dark and bright

Meet in her aspect and her eyes:

Thus mellow'd to that tender light

Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

2

One shade the more, one ray the less,

Had half impair'd the nameless grace

Which waves in every raven tress,

Or softly lightens o'er her face;

Where thoughts serenely sweet express

How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

3

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,

So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,

The smiles that win, the tints that glow,

But tell of days in goodness spent,

A mind at peace with all below,

A heart whose love is innocent!

Discussion of the Poem

The first couple of lines can be confusing if not read properly. Too often readers stop at the end of the first line where there is no punctuation. This is an enjambed line, meaning that it continues without pause onto the second line. That she walks in beauty like the night may not make sense as night represents darkness. However, as the line continues, the night is a cloudless one with bright stars to create a beautiful mellow glow. The first two lines bring together the opposing qualities of darkness and light that are at play throughout the three verses.

The remaining lines of the first verse employ another set of enjambed lines that tell us that her face and eyes combine all that's best of dark and bright. No mention is made here or elsewhere in the poem of any other physical features of the lady. The focus of the vision is upon the details of the lady's face and eyes which reflect the mellowed and tender light. She has a remarkable quality of being able to contain the opposites of dark and bright.

The third and fourth lines are not only enjambed, but the fourth line begins with an irregularity in the meter called a metrical substitution. The fourth line starts with an accented syllable followed by an unaccented one, rather than the iambic meter of the other lines, an unaccented syllable followed by an accented one. The result is that the word "Meet" receives attention, an emphasis. The lady's unique feature is that opposites "meet" in her in a wonderful way.

The second verse tells us that the glow of the lady's face is nearly perfect. The shades and rays are in just the right proportion, and because they are, the lady possesses a nameless grace. This conveys the romantic idea that her inner beauty is mirrored by her outer beauty. Her thoughts are serene and sweet. She is pure and dear.

The last verse is split between three lines of physical description and three lines that describe the lady's moral character. Her soft, calm glow reflects a life of peace and goodness. This is a repetition, an emphasis, of the theme that the lady's physical beauty is a reflection of her inner beauty.

Lord Byron greatly admired his cousin's serene qualities on that particular night and he has left us with an inspired poem.

The poem was written shortly before Lord Byron's marriage to Anna Milbanke and published shortly after the marriage.

Augusta National Golf Club - A Beautiful Golf Course

The Augusta national golf club has been the location of the well known and highly televised Masters Tournament. The course is located in Augusta Georgia and has be placed on land that used to be a tree nursery.

An Elegant designed Golf Course for those with the skill to enjoy....

AUGUSTA

The Augusta national golf club is adorned with mature trees, flowers, as well as shrubs and every hole has the name of a tree or a shrub that is located on the hole. In the early days it stood out from the rest of the golf courses due to the small number of bunkers it contained, compared to other golf courses. The widths of the fairways on the course were also different from the other professional quality courses.

Design changes to the Course

Over the years architects have made changes to the course such as placing more bunkers, decreasing the contours of the greens and placing more trees on the course. The creation of serveral rough areas made the course more challenging.

The greens at the Augusta course had a long tradition of being made from traditional Bermuda grass. In 1981, they were changed to being made from bent grass, which provides a faster surface on the green. This was the deciding factor for the decrease in the contours that were placed on the green.

Members of the Augusta national golf club are probably familiar with the large oak tree that is located on the course and is thought to be over 140 years old.

The Eisenhower tree is a solid pine tree, which is situated on the 17th hole of the course.

Historians of the course claim that the tree was hit with a golf ball numerous times, (to his disgust) by President Eisenhower, and so he recommend that they remove the tree. The chairman of the course at the time did not want to have to ignore the recommendation of the President, however he decided the best thing to do was close the meeting.

The course also has Ike's Pond, which was named after General Eisenhower. He had taken a walk in the woods on a distance portion of the club grounds, and advised the chairman of the club that he had found a great place to include a pond. The pond was built based on his recommendation.

I believe the chairman's job was an extremely diplomatic role, with so many top names of politics and high ranking officials. It allowed its first African-American member in 1990. It is currently an all-male membership.

The Augusta course is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, for both professionals and the weekend players. I highly recommend it if for only to pick out the specific icons mentioned here, and to identify how they arrived on the course.

Atlanta Mortgage Lenders

It maintains a wide network with domestic mortgage brokers to serve the borrowers of Atlanta. This Association generates more than 0 million of fixed and adjustable rate loans per month. It also provides a wide range of products to the home mortgage market.

A borrower should be very careful when dealing with lenders. When there is downfall of in the lender's business and a continuous rise in interest rates, they may force the borrower to purchase the house.

Generally Atlanta mortgage lenders encourage buyers to opt for loans with higher interest rates because apart from the regular commission, they can earn an additional 1 to 2 percent of the loan. Atlanta mortgage lenders are required to give a good faith, detailed and itemized estimate of the closing costs of the borrower according to Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) when the borrower hands over the loan application.

Sometimes lenders may give pre-approval to the borrower for the home mortgage without verifying the information on the application. These are called wastebasket approvals. Borrowers should be wary of these. If the borrowers pay their principal amounts early, those amounts will be credited in escrow. In order to avoid complications, Atlanta mortgage industry has set down rules and regulations according to federal laws.

12 Good Reasons Not To Sell By Owner

Some people groan at the thought of a Realtor telling you not to sell your OWN HOME. Some Realtors have a reputation of being as classy as the stereotypical used car salesman- and many believe that Realtors are paid thousands of dollars just to stick a sign in your yard.

Consider this...do you cut your own hair? Do you diagnose your own illnesses? Do you cook your own gourmet meals? Do you defend yourself in a court of law? All of these things you can do without professional assistance. However, you get what you pay for. Most of the time, trouble is all you get in the end- and it always seems to cost twice as much as if you had done it right in the first place!

AUGUSTA GA

Well, selling your own home is no different. In fact, it can be much scarier than that free home hair cut on picture day!

All joking aside, your home is probably the biggest investment you will ever make. A mistake in selling your home could cost you far more than hiring a professional will ever cost.

A few points to consider:

o Liability- We live in a culture where people bring law suits at the drop of a hat...can you afford to take on that possibility? A misunderstood statement or a problem not disclosed can lead to big problems. Not only do you open yourself up to litigation, agents do not want to bring their buyers to you. Why? Because you are a liability to them and their clients.

o Safety- Do you want to open your house up to just anyone? Agents track who is in your home, when, and for how long. They vet potential buyers before those clients enter your house.

o Cost- By the time you spend your money advertising and sell your home you may have incurred more cost than an agent's fee. A couple of balloons, an ad in the paper, and some free punch and cookies is NOT going to get it done.

o Exposure- An agent can reach far more people than you can. The networks available to an agent are tremendous. Unless you pay a several hundred dollar listing fee, for example, your home will not be listed in MLS, shrinking the pool of potential buyers by several orders of magnitude.

o Time on the Market- If your agent is honest with you on price and how to prep your home, it will sit on the market for a fraction of the time it will take you to sell your home. Next time watch how long the home without an agent sits on the market vs a house that has Real Estate Agent representation. Also consider that a home that is on the market too long is generally perceived to have something wrong with it.

o Correct Pricing- Can you really separate your emotions and price your house properly? Do you think you can price your home not to cheat yourself or drive away prospects? The amount Mr. Johnson across the street sold his house for does not necessarily mean that you will get the same price...and who is to say that he told you the actual selling price? Even worse, sites like zillow.com can often estimate wildly inaccurate prices for homes.

o Ability- Do you have the ability and time to answer every phone call and every knock on the door? Can you leave work to show your home to an out of town buyer at 10:30 am on a Tuesday?

o Hassle- You will have to deal with the questions, the knocks on the door, the phone calls, and people wanting to walk through your home. You will have to deal with the termite inspector, the mortgage evaluator, the home inspector, the people buying your home... and that is not even counting your part of the move!

o Negotiations- Do you have enough emotional control to know how best to evaluate a buyers offer and then respond to buyer contingencies, timetables for appraisals, inspections, financing and much more? Will you be able to diplomatically ask for money if an offer is too low, without alienating a potential buyer?

o Buyers- The majority of motivated buyers use an agent. They are looking to make a quick transaction and they are not going to waste time driving around looking for a "For Sale by Owner" sign. And let's face it, agents are not going to show your house, either. You are on your own.

o Tribal knowledge- Do you know who the honest lawyers are? How about the home inspector? Do you know what their rates are for their services? Can they be trusted, and will they perform for you? You probably don't know the answers... and guess what... they know you don't, too! Many will offer services at a low quality standard and then charge you at higher than normal rates. They know you won't be back.

o Peace of Mind- Do you really know all the forms, inspections, regulations, and laws concerning property transactions in your area? How about tax liabilities? Are you using a FSBO website as a reference? Your buddy that got lucky selling his house? What if you miss something? Are they coming to your aid when it all goes wrong?

When considering the idea of selling your own home, seriously ask yourself if you are willing to deal with all of the points that I have made, because as a "For Sale by Owner" you will have to deal with all of it. Why not hire a professional to help? It really is worth the Realtor's fees!

Unlike the famous film's story, Maria was not intended to be governess to all seven children; but before long Maria's vivacity and music had brought all the children together in song and activities, and the obligatory separation of the age groups, which was typical for the upper class at that time, ceased to exist. As Maria's original pupil recovered, she became governess to all seven Trapp children and encouraged them in sports, handiwork, and, of course, music.

Contrary to general thought, the von Trapp children knew much of music, and the Captain is reported to have said that his children often did nothing but sing all day long. But Maria did introduce the family to many Austrian folk songs and taught them to harmonize the parts.

As Maria's stay with the family continued, the children and the Captain became attached to her and did not relish the thought of the day when she would return to the Abbey. A few things stood in the way of her permanency there, however. Firstly, the Captain felt obligated to continue his courtship with Princess Yvonne, the real life "Baroness Schrader" who was a distant cousin of his deceased wife. Secondly, Maria herself was not in love with the Captain and anticipated her return to her former life. But as matters moved along between the Princess and Captain von Trapp, he realized that he loved Maria and not the Viennese countess. So the day he had planned on proposing to Yvonne, he instead broke off their relationship with intentions of marrying Maria.

Lake Eyre Flights

Lake Eyre is Australia's largest salt lake, and in fact, is the largest lake in Australia.

Located in the outback of South Australia, Lake Eyre is approximately 650 kilometres north east of Adelaide. The lake is enormous: over 140 km long and 77 km wide.

AUGUSTA GA

Usually, it's a vast expanse of dry, blinding white salt crust, and is one of the hottest, harshest and most inhospitable places in Australia. Yet, when it fills, it's a place teeming with life. Waterbirds come from 1000s of kilometres away to roost and breed on the lake and its shores, creating a birdwatcher's paradise.

On average, Lake Eyre only once every 25 years.

For the past two years (2010 & 2011), Lake Eyre has been full, with more water on the way down.

So now is really the best time to see this once in a lifetime event.

We went down over Easter 2011 and saw the Lake full for the very first time. We camped on the lake's edge -which was amazing, almost like being at the beach rather than in Australia's remote outback!

We also took a flight, which really showed us exactly how HUGE the lake is.

One of the best ways to see the lake is via flight over the its expanse. It's hard comprehend how big Lake Eyre actually is, so a scenic flight over this magnificent outback wonder will most definitely help you put its size into perspective.

Lake Eyre flights are a great choice if you are short for time or you don't have a 4WD. This article tells you where to book a scenic flight over Lake Eyre and other handy links and tips, as well as what you will experience on a typical flight over Lake Eyre.

What to expect from a Lake Eyre Flight:

The flight itself is something you'll never forget as you encounter some amazing views of the lake.

A typical flight varies from 1-2 hours and takes you over the massive breeding colonies of waterbirds, east over lake's expanse, and north, to show you how vast this inland waterway actually is. You'll also fly over Halligan Bay, the place where most people who drive in and camp at the lake's edge visit.

Aircraft used on a Lake Flight are usually Cessna 172s, 207s, 210s and Australian-made GA-8 Airvans (seating 7 passengers). And don't worry, one of the best air safety records in the world is held by Australia!

Touring from the Outback

To avoid disappointment make sure you have booked your Lake Eyre flights prior to trip.

Currently the tiny William Creek is full of light aircraft because Lake Eyre is almost full; a rare sight.

Although this town is a tiny speck on the map in the middle of nowhere, on our last visit in mid-April we counted 15 airplanes, which is heaps for such a small place. There are a variety of Lake Eyer flights to choose from if you're travelling from Coober Pedy or Birdsville and also at Marree if 4WD driving the Oodnadatta Track.

Pick ups can be arranged from Coober Pedy, or you can fly directly out from William Creek and Marree.

Many of the major companies have been touring for years, so you'll be in good hands. You can find flights starting from 0 per person for a one-hour tour.

If the location suits you better you can fly out from Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges, however, flights are a little more expensive.

Touring From the City

If you're coming from the city, many tour companies located in Australian capital cities offer Lake Eyre flights as well which includes Alice Springs, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Broken Hill.

On our last trip we were surrounded by people who had flown in from Sydney and Adelaide as we had lunch at the William Creek Hotel. They were staying in the Hotel's simple, but clean motel-style accommodation and had all flown in to holiday for the weekend.

There is also a 6 day tour on offer, leaving from Adelaide which starts at 95 per person.

Although it is a pricy package, the itinerary for this tour just looks totally awesome.

Not only do you get to tour Lake Eyre, but you are also taken to other great Aussie locations such as Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges and Port Augusta just to name a few.

Our tip: go now while it's got water in it. Take a short flight from William Creek and stay at one of the outback's truly unique pubs.

Will Vinyl Siding Increase Or Decrease the Value of Your Home?

Vinyl siding has created quite a tempest in the world of construction. While some in the building trades hail this type of siding as the best invention since the wheel and point out it's many advantages such as low cost, low maintenance and durability. Others in the industry claim vinyl siding cheapens the look of your home and lowers it's value. So who is right? Does vinyl siding add to the curb appeal of your home and thus raise your homes value or does it cheapen your home and make it worth less?

The answer is that everyone is right. In certain circumstances this type of siding can improve the look of your home and increase it's value. In other circumstances the use of this siding may not only lower the value of your home but also the other homes in the neighborhood. That being the case there are some things you need to consider before deciding for or against this durable siding.

AUGUSTA

The Age of Your Home
If you have an elegant home from a bygone era then let's face it using vinyl siding will definitely make your home look cheaper and will decrease the value of your home. An old Victorian mansion simply isn't going to look right unless it is sided in the same type of material that it had originally. Any newer type of siding be it vinyl or aluminum or something else will detract from the homes originality and style. So, keep in mind the age of your home before re siding it.

The Look Of The Other Homes In The Neighborhood
You should also take into consideration the look of the other homes in the neighborhood. If all the homes are sided with wood siding, brick or stucco and yours is sided with vinyl then it is bound to look out of place. However, if all the homes are sided with aluminum siding or vinyl then a vinyl sided home will look great and blend in with the neighborhood thereby increasing it's value if the siding is new and looks great.

If your home isn't that old and the siding is old and worn looking then vinyl siding can certainly increase the value of your home especially if you choose an insulated vinyl that will also help lower the utility costs. By making sure that you choose a high quality siding, you can make sure that your home looks good both from the road and up close and personal.

The simple truth is that in most cases vinyl siding will increase the value of your home. However, there are exceptions to everything and in the case of siding you are going to want to take into consideration the age of the home and the look of the entire neighborhood before deciding if this type of siding is right for you and will add to the value of your home.

What Patterns Do You Need to Transform?

There are patterns and there are systems.

barnesandnoble.com

A pattern is a way of doing things, typically because we've always done them that way, with no evaluation of process or outcome.

BARNES AND NOBLE

But a system takes forethought, intention and organization. A system is re-evaluated as it evolves.

Do you ever try to finish 'hospital work' projects at home? (Of course you do because there's no time for that at work right?!) While I love the freedom of working at home, sometimes I make myself bonkers. I may be sitting at my computer with the best intentions of being productive, when I begin to see ALL the things around the house that also need to be done.

Typically, my brain goes something like this: "First I'll spend an hour on this project, then I'll go throw some laundry in, then, well...maybe I'll throw laundry in first so the washer is running while I'm working on my project." As I come back upstairs from the laundry room I notice the blur of doggy nose-prints all over our front windows. Ugh.

And while I try to set those things aside as I work, they gnaw away at my spirit. It's a pattern that doesn't lend itself to centeredness or productivity.

So a few years ago, I stepped out of pattern mode and into system mode.

Here is just ONE example of what that can look like:

Sometimes, instead of trying to work at home, I go somewhere with Wi-Fi (Barnes and Noble is my favorite!). I sit at a small table with my computer. And it's amazing what happens!

I check multiple items off my list. Some items take 3 hours to complete and some only 15 minutes. Sometimes I complete conference calls from there too!

Now I know this idea is not new. We see people doing this frequently. But, these are the reasons this one particular system works for me:

1. My intention is to get a specific list of things completed in less than 5 hours. My tasks are written down and organized before I go. They include some quick things that make me feel happy and productive when I complete them = momentum.

2. I sit at a table for 2, not a big high table for 6. This is for 2 reasons. 1) I only have room for a small amount of work at a time which limits distraction. 2) So I do not throw ALL my stuff on a big table to dramatically say to the world and myself, "Look at all this work I have today!"

3. The streams of happy people that pass through energize me. (As do the books that surround me.)

4. At home, the distractions can be a built-in excuse for me not to get things accomplished. At Barnes and Noble, I am delightfully 'trapped' in an environment that doesn't allow for that. It leaves me with only my work. (And one of my favorite snacks EVER!)

Oh, and I can't hear the buzzer on my dryer from Barnes and Noble!

Kindle v Nook - Which is the better eReader?

The Kindle from Amazon and the original Nook from Barnes & Noble are two very popular eReaders available to buy today. Both have been around for a while and both have upsides and downsides. In this Kindle v Nook review I will provide you with an honest and unbiased look at them both so to make it easier for you to make the right decision for you. At this point I would like to inform you that I am a long time eReader enthusiast and I would never review a product I hadn't tried and tested (which is not the case with most other so-called "reviewers" out there). So, I hope you enjoy my review and feel free to comment or ask any questions you may have.

barnes and noble nook

I have categorized the various features of the two as to make it effortless for you to navigate your way through this review.

BARNES AND NOBLE

Speed

In the world we live in, speed tends to mean everything to people. Our lives race along at 100 miles an hour and if we can save 5 minutes per week having a more zippy eReader, it matters to some. If all you care about is speed, the Kindle 3 is your obvious choice. Amazon took the old Kindle 2, which was already quicker than the Nook, and made it even faster with the Kindle 3. The time it takes to turn a page feels like an eternity on the Nook compared to the Kindle 3. Now, not all of us are in such a hurry, but I have to say having tested both, once you have tried the Kindle it somehow feels like you are wasting precious seconds of your life with the Nook.

Another thing that is much quicker with the Kindle is the navigation. This means its ability to move the cursor around the page in a smooth and predictable manner. The Kindle has what is called a rocker-button which can be moved around 5 ways and it moves very quickly. On the Nook you have to activate the LCD screen which lights up a little virtual rocker-button that has to be touched to move the cursor around the screen. Compared to the Kindle, the virtual rocker-button on the Nook appears very slow and sluggish. Again, this might not matter to you, but when you get used to the Kindle, going back to the sluggishness of the Nook can be rather irritating. I do know that Barnes & Noble have released software updates that has made it quicker, but it still does not perform like the Kindle.

Screen Contrast

The quality of the screen of an eReader is really important. I could handle slower page turns, but if the screen has glare or it hurts your eyes to read more than half an hour it's going in the bin. Amazon took the Kindle 2 and improved the screen drastically when they released number 3. The official numbers say 50% better contrast than the Kindle 2 and I believe them. The screen contrast of the Nook is about the same as Kindle 2 so the new Kindle is miles ahead. Effectively what this means for you as a user is an eReader that can be read both inside and out in any conditions and keeps the strain on your eyes to a minimum. After an hour or so on the Nook I've had enough, especially if the lights are a bit dim, but I still haven't reached my limit with the Kindle 3.

If you are reading in well lit conditions the Nook will do just fine, but if you are anything like me, you may like to read in bed, and bedrooms may be poorly lit. Take the Nook to bed with you and you'll have a headache within the hour unless you have a decent bed side table lamp.

Battery life

The new battery fitted in Kindle 3 is truly amazing. I charge mine every couple of weeks and that is with the WiFi on. If I turn it off it will last me about a month. Unfortunately for the Nook, its touch LCD screen drains the battery very quickly and it is unlikely to last you more than a week. Does it matter much? Well, if all you do is have the eReader at home and read before bed it probably doesn't. But if you go on holidays of any significant duration and want to take your library with you, the Nook will require you to bring the charger. Personally, the big difference in battery life doesn't really matter. I have no problem plugging the charger in once a week.

Weight

In the blue corner, from Barnes & Noble, weighing in at 11.5 ounces, the Nook! And in the red corner, straight from Amazon, weighing in at only 8.5 ounces, the Kindle 3! If this was a boxing match the Nook would probably "nook" (did you get it?) the shorts off the Kindle, but unfortunately for Barnes & Noble, it is not. 3 ounces may not seem like a lot, but when you hold the Nook for a while and then switch to the Kindle 3, you can feel the difference straight away. The Kindle just feels nicer in your hand and because it is lighter it is easier to bring with you. The case that comes with the Nook makes it even worse as it is quite heavy, while the Kindle case is light and works really well.

So far, the Kindle 3 has slaughtered the Nook. But, for all you Nook fans out there, don't despair. There are reasons that may make you consider the Nook as well. Let's go through them one by one and check the summary at the end for the result.

Having a physical store

Should you ever need any help with your Nook, all you have to do is take it to a Barnes & Noble store and they will look after it for you. Should you happen to be at Barnes & Noble with your Nook you can read any book in their library for free for an hour per day. If you are lucky they may even give you a free book which will just pop up on your screen.

User-replaceable battery

The batteries used in both the Nook and the Kindle will eventually lose their charging abilities. With years of use, what used to last two weeks may now only last you a few days. Nook's battery is easy to change for the user and inexpensive to purchase. To replace the Kindle battery on the other hand, you have to ship it (at your own cost) to Amazon and they will replace your whole Kindle with a refurbished one (not yours). That said, according to Amazon the Kindle battery should last you for as long as 3 years and I guess most of us would have upgraded to the newer model by then anyway.

ePub

As opposed to the Kindle 3, the Nook uses the widely used open format, ePub. This means that with a Nook you have the ability to "borrow" eBooks in the ePub format from many digital libraries. Amazon uses their own eBook format which is not recognized by other eReaders. What this means for you as a user is that you cannot take a Kindle eBook and transfer it to your Nook, unless you use a free program called Calibre which will translate eBook formats for you. The only catch here is that Calibre does not work with copy-write protected books.

Nook's LCD screen

Having a color LCD screen on your eReader may be a pro for some and a con for others. It really depends on what is important to you. It does make the Nook look pretty cool if this is important to you, but when it comes to being user-friendly, the Kindle is both quicker and easier to use. Looking at the LCD screen is pretty much like staring at a computer, so if this gives you a headache, chances are the Nook will do the same.

Expandable Memory

The Nook comes with 2 GB as standard, but you can add on an extra 16GB if you wish by buying a microSD card. The Kindle comes with 4 GB as standard, but can not be expanded. Now, I am not sure who would need 16GB of books on their Nook, but the 4 GB that comes standard on the Kindle is definitely enough as it will hold up to 3500 books.

SUMMARY:

Look, both the Kindle 3 and the Nook are two of the very best eReaders on the market today. Hence why they are put up against each other in the "fight of champions." Most other eReader fall short of these two and it seems as if every time a new and better model is released, the gap widens. Both the Kindle and the Nook come with their advantages and disadvantages as you have already read about. When it comes down to actually putting your hard earned cash down however, I would back the Kindle 3, any day of the week. Why? Well, there's only two things I like better about the Nook. Its user-replaceable battery and the fact that you can have an actual person fixing it while you wait. But at the end of the day, these two features does not make up for the fact that the Kindle 3 is faster, lasts longer, has a better screen which is easier on the eyes, much more user-friendly, smaller and lighter which makes it more portable and better to hold for those long hours of reading. So, ring-a-ding-ding, Kindle's the king!

The Nigerian Craze For Mexican Telenovelas

Nigerian Soap operas/drama productions, rocked our TV screens back in the days (especially in the 80's), which transcended into the 90's from Cock Crow at Dawn, Village Headmaster, Mirror in the Sun, Behind the Clouds, Ripples, Mind Bending, to Supple Blues, Checkmate, Fortunes, amongst others. Foreign comedies as well dominantly from the USA and Britain gave Nigerians a worth while fun time viewing experience, such as The Jeffersons, Good Times, Sanford and Sons, Different Strokes, Mixed Blessings, Mind your language, Doctor in the House, Rising Dam, Some Mothers do have them, Rent A Ghost, amongst others. Unfortunately, they stopped the broadcast of these programmes and Nigerians had to be content with the stream of local productions that were flung in our faces.

However, "The Rich Also Cry" back in the late 80's set the precedent for a plethora of Latin American telenovelas (dominantly from Mexico) and in some cases Venezuela, to flood our screens. It was the first Telenovela that ruled the Nigerian airwaves back in the days. Following the viewership hit recorded, "Secrets of the Sand", "No One But You", "Lady of the Rose", "Maria de los Angeles", took successive turns in entertaining Nigerians with the latin American flavoured stories. Unfortunately, somewhere along the 90's, the broadcast of the Telenovelas came to an abrupt halt, closing the book of the Latin American epoch of thrilling, exciting, cliff hanger moments, and intricate plots. Nigerians especially those living in Lagos state (The Hub of the Entertainment Industry) had to make do with other foreign genres other than drama, broadcast straight into our living rooms especially from God's own country.

AUGUSTA

However, the revival of telenovelas on our screens returned with a big bang in 2005 with "Cuando Seas Mia(when you are mine)" with 238 episodes starring Paloma/Elena Olivares( Silvia Navarro), Diego Sanchez Serrano (Sergio Basanez), broadcast on African Independent television (AIT) at 9pm and MITV at 7pm from Monday to Friday. To say the least, at such times especially at 9pm, women, teens, children and surprisingly a good number of the men folk tuned to AIT's frequency to watch fresh episodes of the programme. Great was the response to the telenovela that even with the epileptic power supply in the country at that time(which hasn't changed) families were seen eagerly powering on the generators to watch, while those who didn't have one could be spotted at open bars, clubs, local restaurants, shops, neighbours/ friends apartments gladly watching same.

The cliff hanger moments were always heart stopping and at the end of each episode splinter groups would emerge, giving their views about what transpired in various scenes in the episode, what could and couldn't have been done by a particular character, who they suspected was the guilty party, and a prediction of what would happen in the next episode. To miss an episode was to miss out big time! and those who did miss it where seen the next day eagerly asking to be filled in on the details by their friends at schools, offices etc. All the actors and actresses played their roles well and none was found wanting. Shouts of Paloma, Diego, The three witches (Barbara, Berenice, Angela), Mariano, Fabian and other characters never failed to come up during discussions. It was a great story which kept Nigerians glued to their TV sets at the fixed times. Thumbs up to the script writer, casting director, director, and the entire crew who made our viewing pleasure a memorable one.

"Catalina n Sebastian", "The Gardener's Daughter", "Second Chance" also recorded good viewership. Second chance having been concluded an American soap took over in its stead, unfortunately Nigerians were not that receptive to it and I think the sponsors realized that they ought not to have changed the winning brand, and have come up with another telenovela "Until my last breath" shown only on AITand Fish Port Princess. Other TV stations such as Galaxy, MBI (now defunct), NTA 10, STV, TVC have also leveraged on the popularity of the Latin American telenovelas and have / still airing them such as "Lorenzo's Wife", "la Usurpadora", "Esmeralda", "Camila", "Rebeca", "Rubi", "La Revancha, "Storm Over Paradise".

Perhaps, the beauty of these televovelas lies not only in its foreign origin but its content which brings to bear the realities of life encapsulated in betrayal, deceit, love, hatred, thirst for power and fortune, heart breaks, class distinction standing as a hurdle to marriage, weakness of man, seeming insurmountable mountainous challenges which man irrespective of race, nationality, tribe, gender, religion, confronts on a daily basis. The suspense/cliff hanger moments, intrigues, makes one want to watch the next episode. Love, quest for true love and happiness is greatly projected in the telenovelas and tends to revolve around the plot of the story. Serenade (which is alien to this part of the world) is respectively seen in scenes where love is being professed and re-assured. They no doubt have a great love culture.

The English voice overs for the characters with certitude achieved through a high level of professionalism helps non- Spanish speaking people follow the unfolding drama in the story easily. Imagine if it had been subtitled, not everyone would have been able to keep up with the on going dialogue. Another thing they have going for them happens to be the theme songs. The theme song for "When you are mine" became a 'soap opera anthem' on the lips of Nigerians (even though we couldn't understand the lyrics of the song) but the beats, chorus, and the voice of the lead vocalist made the song a memorable one. La Usurpadora, Rebeca, Until my last breath also have good theme songs. Nigerians can clearly reel out certain phrases reflected in the dialogue process by the actors and actresses such as "My Love, Love of my life, I swear to you, forgive me, On the contrary, Salu,".

However, certain negative re-curring decimals such as unforgiveness, paving the way for revenge, the propounding of the love theory as a justifiable reason for adultery and sought after happiness, divorce, separation, single parenting, lustful desires, cleavage revealing tops relegates Christian doctrines to the background in a country where the Christian faith is presumably practised. This has the tendency to send the wrong signals to people from other Nations.

Despite the short comings, the Telenovelas have overtime proven to be worth being sponsored and watched by the Nigerian populace. It is my utmost belief that more of these exciting soaps will continue to hit our screens. Nigerians, are however waiting patiently for the Latin American telenovela that would surpass the overwhelming effect "The Rich Also Cry" and "Cuando Seas Mia" had on them.

So long... auggiepo@yahoo.com
