Boxing Training

What do you need to train as a boxer? It's a good question. Well how about fitness and knowing the technical side of boxing, the right punches, the right techniques.

Good boxers are fit. It goes without saying. You can't last 12 - 15 rounds of boxing unless you're fit. That's why you see boxers running, skipping, Shadow boxing, putting the hours in at the gym. Building strength and endurance. You name it and they're doing the hard work.

BARNES AND NOBLE

Because they know it'll pay off in the end. Also they're in the ring sparring. Practicing punches, combinations specific punches. Developing lightening reflexes and hand eye co-ordination. So when the boxer is ready to fight he is at the peak of physical condition. Ready to go the distance. Yet this same boxer in all probability started out by joining a boxing club in the vicinity of their home town. And that's a great way for anyone to learn this noble art.

However once a boxer shows some promise and commitment, they have a ring savvy boxing coach. Someone who has been there - seen it - done it. Some one who can teach them the technical aspects of boxing.

Well whatever way a boxer trains, they train following a boxing program. One which teaches them how to fight, ring craft and how to become fitter at the same time. But what about the ordinary guy? Somebody who wants to know how to punch correctly (and become fitter from boxing). There's gotta' be an easier method surely.

Shopping in Maine

Some might think that because of Maine's vast green forests and undeveloped terrain that there aren't places to shop. They would be wrong. So if while visiting Maine you are dreaming of malls and smoking credit cards instead of the rugged beauty of ocean crashed shorelines there is hope for you. Maine is overwhelmed with places to spend your money from traditional malls to flea markets to shopping towns.

The traditional malls can be found in South Portland and Bangor. The mall in South Portland is actually called the Maine Mall. With 140 stores, 18 restaurants and anchor stores such as Sears, Macy's and J.C. Penneys you can have hours of shopping enjoyment. Because of its size, everyone in your family will find places to lose some green. Don't worry guys, there is a Best Buy, Electronics Boutique, and Fye to feed your electronic urges. Kids will find the Disney Store, Build-A-Bear and, if they're like my chocolate munching children, Godiva of special interest. The traditional mall in Bangor is appropriately called the Bangor Mall. Shocking, huh? It's about half the size of the Maine Mall with 79 stores but it has the same anchor stores. You can find hiking, fishing and outdoor gear at the Dick's Sporting Goods store. For those seeking to support Maine businesses I'd suggest stepping into Berg Sportswear and picking up your University of Maine Black Bear's t-shirt.

AUGUSTA

If a traditional mall is too sterile, new or ordinary maybe a flea market is for you. It's difficult to tell what strange forgotten treasures you can find at a flea market. In Maine there are too many flea markets to review so I'll give you a list to explore.

Flea Market - City

Augusta Flea Market - Augusta

Bargain House - Lebanon

Cascade Flea Market - Saco

Evergreen Flea Market - Poland

Gloria's Flea Market - Topsham

Gorham Flea Market - Gorham

Granite Ridge Flea Market - Waterboro

Montsweag Flea Market - Woolwich

North Vassalboro Flea Market - North Vassalboro

Undercover Antique Mall - Oxford

Waterfront Flea Market - Brunswick

West Gardiner Flea Market - Gardiner

Another shopping experience can be found in towns that specialize in shopping. Yes, you heard me correctly, entire towns dedicated to fine art of shopping. Freeport Maine is such a town. A motivated shopper could spend days wandering through the streets of Freeport, it's an incredible place. From the whimsical fun of the Cool as a Moose store to the striking beauty of the pottery at Edgecomb Potters there is a store for you. Because of an unwritten law, I have to mention the massive L.L. Bean store or they will bar me from Freeport forever. After a tiring day of shopping go to Gritty McDuff's to unwind. They have a fenced yard with a swing set for the kids to play while you enjoy adult conversation on the deck. Those of you who have rug rats know how rare it is to eat and chat without interruption. Bar Harbor is another quaint town with plenty of shopping and other fun tourist activities. If you've ever been to Ben and Bill's Chocolate Emporium and savored some delectable treats you understand that being a tourist isn't a bad thing. Overall, Bar Harbor has a flare for local crafts and arts. It seems as though the entire town is comprised of artists and craftsmen. Long ago Bar Harbor was known as a place for the ultra wealthy but today everyone can feel comfortable here.

Please realize that these aren't even a fraction of the shops in Maine. There are tiny towns throughout Maine with wonderful shops and breathtaking views that offer additional shopping. Take a day or two to meander through harbor towns with small mom and pop shops to really understand Maine and its friendly people.

Things to Consider When Selecting an Ebook Reader

Handheld eBook Reader

One has to wonder if Amazon an an idea as to how popular the portable ebook reader was going to be when they first introduced the Kindle. At the present time, Kindle is the runaway leader in sales among the big three competitors. Sony cam first and their prime product is the Sony Touch Edition. Next and coming fast, is the Nook from Barnes & Noble. With all of the book resources and retail outlets, B&N has a lot going for them and right now they are closing the gap between themselves and the Kindle.

BARNES AND NOBLE

The handheld eBook reader has rapidly come to be one of the hottest gadgets on the marketplace currently. They are trendy for good cause too. Having one of these in your traveling bag or at your home or workplace, you can have easy access to an almost endless availability of literature in a compact, handy and fashionable package.

Before you go and pick up the first eBook reader that you find, there are two or three important points you'll have to keep in mind. One of those is that not all readers qualify as a true portable e book reader. It's really a specific class or category of eBook readers that are as small, light-weight and portable as possible. Frequently, these will have display monitors of somewhere between 5 and 6 inches as compared to bigger models that can have displays of up to 10 inches.

If you travel a good deal, in that case you'll really want to reap the benefits of as long of a battery life as you can locate. Just about any handheld eBook reader today will make use of a rechargeable battery of some kind, but the battery lives can be very different. Some may last for almost a day and some could last for a week. Additionally, when you have capabilities such as wireless connectivity flipped on, your battery life will be drained quicker.

Storage space is commonly the next greatest factor, although the truth is that regardless of whether you have the memory space for 500 or 3,000 books, it should be satisfactory for your demands. Thus you need to also think about how many font and display measurements your handheld eBook reader has, the outlining or highlighting functions that it is sold with, whether it utilizes a touch screen or not and other characteristics that will make several models much more attractive than others.

You can do a lot more with a handheld eBook reader than just pour through straight text however. Many business people as an example prefer to use them to go over accounts, speeches and charts during their regular commute or as they travel to an key meeting. It's just another helpful tool that you can have on your side to make the most out of all of your time and to take full advantage of every chance that you possess.

The handheld eBook reader is only likely to get more standard, so why wait around only to cave in and buy in a few years?

Let the Christmas 2011 E-Reader Retail Wars Begin!

Every Christmas season industries in the consumer sectors of our economy try to reinvent themselves. The retailers convince you that you must have some certain new item, one which they can make a high profit on, and sell you in bulk. As the competition gets fiercer, there really isn't as much profit as they presumed. Nevertheless, the pervasive Christmas spending goes on. If you'll recall in previous years; flat screen TVs where the big thing, last year it was the iPhone and iPad. This year it appears to be tablet computers and E-Readers

There have been some rather interesting articles in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and other national newspapers about all the new E-Readers coming out now for the holiday season, still to get the real skinny on who has what, who is selling which models, and what the implications are for the industry, one really has to read the online techie guru assessments.

BARNES AND NOBLE

In fact, there was an interesting article on Read Write Web on November 8, 2011 titled; "Amazon Bulks Up Against the Nook, Kindles Come to 16,000 Retail Outlets", by Jon Mitchell - which was very telling indeed. I'd say this means a full-scale retail war for the future of the E-Reader, and it looks as if Amazon is pulling out all the stops and using Karl von Clausewitz's theory of "overwhelming force" to fight back against Barnes and Nobles response to Amazon's pre-emptive strike with Amazon Fire. The Read Write Web article stated:

"Barnes & Noble may have more control over its in-person retail experience than Amazon does, but Amazon is bigger in several key ways. Its Android app marketplace is broader, for one thing. But it's Amazon's massive cloud computing scale that gives it the real edge. Amazon is able to accelerate its Silk Web browser and stream Amazon Prime video to the Kindle Fire thanks to its scale. It can also offer high-bandwidth, digital-only services like a lending library for the Kindle."

Okay so, let's discuss this for a moment, but first a word from our sponsor, just kidding, but first I must declare that I personally have E-books on both Barnes and Noble and the Amazon Kindle websites in full-and-fair disclosure.

It appears that a full-scale war is growing into epic proportions for this Christmas season. How many E-Readers will be sold, and bought by Christmas givers during this holiday season? Can the likes of Amazon survive by actually selling their E-Readers at a loss in hopes that people getting these E-Readers will then go and buy E-books on their Kindle website? And what about Barnes & Noble who's stock price hasn't gone anywhere in nearly a decade? Will this Christmas season uplift Barnes & Noble so they don't go the same way as borders books which filed bankruptcy?

Only time will tell of course, but you can bet these E-book readers are the weapon of choice in the new retail battlespace this Christmas. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Let the Christmas 2011 E-Reader Retail Wars Begin!

Golf's Past Masters

The U.S. Masters Golf Tournament has been one of Golf's longest traditions. This tournament is one of the main four championships played in golf once a year. Every year The Masters is held at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta Georgia.

One of the traditions of the tournament is the legendary green jacket the winners play for. Since 1949 each Masters winner is awarded a green jacket. However the jacket is only kept for a year before being returned to the club house the following year.

AUGUSTA GA

The tournament was started by both Bobby Jones and Alister Mackenzie back in 1931. The golf course officially opened two years later in 1933. The very first Masters tournament was held on March 22nd, in 1934. This was won by golfer Horton Smith who would become the first Golf Master. In 1935, Gene Sarazen who had won the tournament by a difficult five strokes with a hole in one shot all the way from the fairway on a par 5 for a double eagle. The tournament was skipped during 1943 and up to 1945 due to the Second World War.

As time went on and the 1960s came around The Masters Tournament was dominated by what would become three major names in the golfing sport. Arnold Palmer would become winner three times as his rival Jack Nicklaus would take home the jacket on five separate occasions, even back to back years in both 195 and 1966. Jack Nicklaus is one name next to Arnold Palmer to become infamous in the game of Golf. Gary Player had become the first person to win the title of the Masters in 1961 who was not American, when he beat out Arnold Palmer who was the 1960 defending champion. Player was beaten the following year by Nicklaus and he would not win another tournament until 1978.

In 1968, Robert DeVicenzo caused a stir that would go down in golfing history as a stupid mistake as he signed his scorecard with listed the wrong amount of strokes by one. This cost him the advancement to the eighteenth hole and led to Bob Goalby winning the jacket that year.

Between 1980 and 1990 the Masters Tournament was being won by a majority of Non-Americans who over all collected eleven victories. In 1986, Jack Nicklaus who won again had officially become the oldest player to ever win the tournament. In 1997, Tiger Woods would be the youngest man to win the green jacket at the age of 21 and by twelve shots. Tiger Woods would also go on to win the tournament three consecutive years in a row. The current owner of the green jacket is Charl Schwartzel from South Africa.

Savannah River Site - A History of Progress

The Savannah River Site is spread across three counties - Aiken, Barnwell, and Allendale. To its southwest lies the river Savannah which separates the states of South Carolina and Georgia. The river site was constructed primarily to produce tritium and plutonium-239 which are the basic materials used in the fabrication of nuclear weapons. Apart from the reactors, the site also houses support facilities including two chemical separations plants, a water extraction plant, a nuclear fuel and target fabrication facility. It also houses various waste management facilities. The river site covers 310 square miles and employs over 10,000 people.

Savannah River Site - Its History and Significance

AUGUSTA GA

The river site has moved away from its image of a "Bomb Plant" ever since the cold war ended. In fact the site's history could be a biography of its dedicated employees who have toiled over the years or even a guide which details the various processes which were performed. Currently the river site is owned by the US department of Energy. It is being managed by the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions LLC. Today the site aims to transform the past liabilities in the form of the river site set up to serve the nation in various ways including reducing dependence on imported oil and even enhancing national security.

Public Tours to the Site

Anyone is welcome to tour the site as long as they are U.S. citizens and at least 18 years old. Anyone visiting the site will be a part of a bus trip by the five reactors on the site which are L, P, C, R, and K and also the two canyons F and H. You will also get a Personal radiation dose chart apart from a map of the site, fact sheet and stationary. After arranging the tour four-six weeks in advance, your group would be expected to provide names, home addresses and Social Security numbers of each visitor in advance. Apart from that each visitor must bring two forms of identification - one must be a current and valid photo ID (i.e., driver's license, military ID, school ID, Passport). Whenever possible the site accommodates special requests for dates and times however no tours can be given evenings, weekends or holidays. The site is located 20 miles south of Aiken, South Carolina or 20 miles southeast of Augusta, South Carolina so you can get there from either of the places. You can even register online for a tour of the river site.

The City of Aiken is a beautiful and historic travel destination for a number of things and you are sure to enjoy a vacation even if it is a quick getaway or an extended holiday.

How To Get Your Favorite Magazine in Large Print

Barnes and Noble NOOKcolor

barnes and noble nook ereader

Barnes and Noble NOOKcolor is opening up a new and beautiful opportunity to read and look at magazines with full color pictures...in large print. The new Barnes and Noble NOOKcolor offers a full color screen, unlike the Kindle readers which only uses black and white e-ink. There is also a fantastic availability of diverse magazines for men and women - magazines like House Beautiful, Woman's Day, or Country Living for women and Cycle World and Popular Science for men.

BARNES AND NOBLE

Monthly subscriptions cost around $.90 - .99/month and a single issues around .99.- .99. Magazines are provided with a 14 day free trial period, so if you find that you don't like the magazine you can cancel it without being charged. The Nook offers five font sizes- extra small to extra large.

Kindle readers also offer magazines that can be downloaded - more than 80 of them. However, they are not the magazines that I'd be interested in - magazines like Science News and Bloomberg Business Week. And the magazines are missing color pictures. What's a magazine without the pictures?

Apple iPad

In my opinion the Apple iPad is the best e book reader for magazines. The screen size of 9.7" is much larger than the Barnes and Noble Nook six inch screen. Right now magazines are available through the Zinio app. The selection is better than any book store - for men and women. Magazines like Good Housekeeping, Home and Garden, or food magazines like Eating Light or Food Network. If you find a recipe that you like in the magazine - just take your iPad to the kitchen, bookmark the page, zoom the text to enlarge the print and now you can read the recipe. Unlike the Nook which has five font sizes, the iPad has a zoom text feature that allows one to enlarge the text to almost any size.

See a picture that you like? Zoom the picture so that it is bigger and easier to see. Oh, and some magazines offer interactive videos - like National Geographic and Popular Science.

Barnes and Noble Nook Review

The Nook represents Barnes and Noble's initial venture into the world of eBook readers. It is unique in that it has sought to bridge the gap between standard E Ink readers, and more advanced LCD touchscreen devices. It uses a sharp contrasting, 6 inch, E Ink screen to display text; and below that, uses a 3.5 inch LCD touchscreen to navigate. It also utilizes the power of Google's Android operating system, and frequent firmware updates mean that the system can be upgraded as new developments become available.

barnes and noble book

The nook is roughly the same size as other 6 - 7 inch readers offered by Sony and Amazon.com. It is almost 4 ounces heavier than the Kindle 3, which users may end up feeling more the longer they use the Nook. It is available in both Wifi and 3G + WiFi models for 9 and 9, respectively.

BARNES AND NOBLE

Many find that the LCD navigation does have a bit of a learning curve. The mind does have some trouble in separating the two screens, and many find themselves trying to tap the E Ink screen as if it were touchscreen as well. Once a user gets over the hump, they find that the experience is more simple than the directional pad navigation of the Kindle and Sony models. For this simplicity, there is a price to be paid, the drain on the battery that is required to run the LCD means that battery life is less than half that of the Kindle 3.

That being said, there are two strong features that present a serious challenge to the segment leading Kindle. First, the Nook supports the ePub format. Many libraries now offer the ability of users to download entire books for free in the ePub format. The users in turn can then transfer them to their Nook via USB and read them like any other title. Second, Barnes and Noble have chosen to integrate the Nook into their retail experience. Users can bring their Nook with them to any Barnes and Noble store and, for one hour per day, read any eBook available via in-store WiFi. Users can also share their purchases with other Nook owning friends by "lending" them their titles for up to 14 days.

The Nook does have its own limitations. There is no ability to purchase new titles outside the United States, even via WiFi. It does not support the viewing of Word or text files. Finally, the dual screen experience does suffer from annoying lag, as the E Ink display does not respond as quickly as the LCD screen.

In all, the Nook is a very capable reader. However, for purely reading's sake, it really does not present any major advantages outside of ePub support. Users that will get the most advantage out of the Nook are people who live within close enough proximity to a Barnes and Noble store, so as to take advantage of the Nook's in-store capabilities.

The Future of Landfills

Landfills have always been a staple in our society. They were the place we put the trash we did not want. They were the ugly underground of our throw-away society. Is there still a place for them, though? Are we slowly forgoing landfills in favor of recycling and simply throwing away less trash? Is there a future for landfills?

The Description of a Landfill

AUGUSTA

The facts and figures about landfills is rather shocking. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2000, each person in the U.S. was responsible for 4.5 pounds of trash per day. The land required to handle this waste equaled one acre for 10,000 people. On that one acre the trash would need to be piled eight feet high.

Landfills were originally created in the 1950s. They replaced open dumps that had been used previously. Landfills had containment systems that helped to isolate the garbage and minimalize the environmental impact and health risk. As trash breaks down, though, there is a natural process that produces, what is called, landfill gases. The gases must be diffused or otherwise extracted as they pose a health risk.

Landfill Location

Finding a spot to put a landfill is not simple. There are many restrictions and roadblocks. Landfills are a community issue, so in many cases, people within the community will put up a fight to prevent a landfill from coming to their area. An area chosen for landfills must pass screening to ensure it meets engineering and geological specifications and regulations.

If a landfill is not located within a reasonable distance to the community then trash removal costs will increase. As communities become more populated it is getting more difficult to find places to put landfills. Many communities are having to go to different states just to find a place for their landfill. The impact of this is going to be a great increase in the cost of trash removal.

The Future

The future of landfills is not as bleak as it may seem. They standards of operation and the great improvements in landfill construction have made landfills safer. Closed landfills are being recycled. The land may be turned back into a community space or even mined for valuable products.

The understanding of landfills and how they work has transformed them. There is no doubt that in the future even more will be understood about them to make them even more valuable and much safer. The key for the future is proper management, planning and guidance of landfills to ensure that they do not pose a risk and that when closed, they are put back to good use.

The amount of waste in the United States has went down. There are more opportunities for recycling, so waste gets reused instead of dumped in a landfill. However, eliminating all waste is a very unlikely event. There will always be some type of solid waste and there will always be a need to have somewhere to put it. Landfills are around for the long haul. They may change over time, but they are likely to always be around.

The Future of Landfills

Golf's Major Championships

Golf's Major Championships, commonly known as 'the majors', are the most prestigious annual tournaments in the sport. The top players from all over the world flock to the majors, while the greatest players in golf history are often primarily judged on their number of major championship victories.

Origins

AUGUSTA

The four major tournament slots were originally taken by the Open Championship (or British Open), the British Amateur, the US Open and the US Amateur.

However, over the years the term "Major Championships" has come to encompass the Masters, the US Open, the Open Championship and the US PGA Championship.

While there is some debate over the exact timing of the switch to naming these four particular tournaments as the majors, many point to Arnold Palmer's 1960 season, when after winning the Masters and the US Open, he said that if he could win the Open Championship and PGA Championship, he would have 'a grand slam of his own' to rival Bobby Jones' exploits in 1930.

The British Major

The Open Championship is often referred to as the British Open outside the United Kingdom. Before the 1960s, few American players took part due to the overseas travel times - the Open Championship was not considered a major in the US until Palmer began competing in the UK in that decade.

The other three majors all take place in the US: the Masters is played at Augusta National Golf Club every year, while the other three rotate courses. The Open Championship, however, is always played on a links course.

Career Prospects

Each of the majors has a distinct history, and they are each run by a different golfing organisation, but their status is recognised worldwide. Major winners receive the maximum allocation of 50 points from the Official World Golf Rankings, which are endorsed by all of the main tours.

Major championship prize money is official on the PGA Tour, European Tour and Japan Golf Tour.

While prizes at the majors are not the largest in professional golf, victor at one of these tournaments is a huge boost to a player's career. Leading players are likely to receive large sponsor bonuses and better contracts, while unknowns will immediately be signed up.

Players receive qualification exemptions for their home tours, while the PGA Tour gives a five-year exemption to all major winners.

The majors are played in the following order:

1. Weekend of the second Sunday in April - the Masters: hosted as an invitational by Augusta National Golf Club

2. Weekend of the third Sunday in June -US Open: hosted by the USGA and played at various locations in the US.

3. Weekend of the third Friday in July - The Open Championship: hosted by the R&A and played on various links courses in the UK.

4. August (fourth weekend after the Open Championship) - PGA Championship: hosted by the Professional Golfers' Association of America and played at various locations in the US.

Does Homeowner's Insurance Cover Air Conditioning Repair?

Many people with their own homes worry about air conditioning repair costs, and wonder if their homeowner's insurance covers this area. The simple answer is yes and no. If you have a natural disaster, fire, or some other catastrophe, and your air conditioner gets destroyed or damaged along with your home, then you are covered by your insurance. However, in many cases where it is just the air conditioner that is broken, or has a problem, then your homeowner's insurance does not cover the repair costs. There are other ways to cover these costs.

When it comes to air conditioning repair, there is another kind of insurance that homeowners can buy. It is called major appliance insurance. This insurance has been advertised in the media and can be obtained online, or you can also ask your current insurance agent about it. What appliance insurance does is cover all of your major home appliances from your refrigerator, to your air conditioner, and most large appliances in between. How it works is if you have any kind of problem with your air conditioning unit, no matter what time of the day or night, you call the insurance hot line, let them know the nature of the problem, and they call a technician to come and fix it for you. This can come in handy in the middle of the summer, when you unit breaks down.

AUGUSTA

How much you will actually pay for air conditioning repair when it comes to appliance insurance depends on the coverage, and the deductible. If you want, you can pay a higher premium with no deductible, and if you need someone to come out and fix it, you will have no out of pocket expenses. The higher the deductible, the more you will have to pay for repairs, it's just that simple

Another way to cut down on these costs is getting an extended warranty on your unit when you purchase it. While many air conditioners come with at least a two year warranty, in many cases you have the option of an extended warranty, which can extend it up to twice as long as the regular warranty will. Now this may cost extra, in some cases up to 0, but considering how much repair costs are, this is a small price to pay for added peace of mind.

So as you can see, there are ways to get around your homeowner's insurance when it comes to air conditioning repair costs. In many cases, the newer the unit, the more efficient it is, the easier and cheaper the coverage will be, and the length of the warranty will be longer. The older the unit, the harder it is to find parts for, and it may take longer for the technician to find the problem. A new more efficient unit will not only cut down on your repair costs, but also save you money because it will work better, and use less energy.

Hiking The Bartram Trail

Stretching from the Georgia-North Carolina southwest border, Bartram Trail is a National Recreation Trail. This is the famous route that explorer William Bartram took in the 18th century from North Carolina to Louisiana. Several landmarks along the Bartram Trail are poorly maintained and directional routes are left unmarked. The early inhabitants of this area are the Cherokee as accounted by John Bartram, the father of William who was appointed by King George III as Botanist Royal.

John usually takes William on these trips to explore the southeast region which influenced him to take this trail as he grew up. So when William Bartram turned 35, he took the first journey of this trail in 1771 where the traverse ran from Georgia to Augusta and the Savannah River.

AUGUSTA GA

As you climb up to Rabun Bald, the path becomes rocky until it reaches a viewing deck where it offers a 360-dgree panoramic view of the whole area. This trek can just be a day's hike for most experienced hikers. From this point you can pace downhill and then ascend to Flat Top where you can view the beauty of Wilson Knob. Moving further south on this trail, you will reach Raven's Knob where a couple of waterfalls are nestled. Situated in this area are Martin's Creek and Warwoman Dell's Becky Branch Falls. Nearby an old rail grade is still visible which is bound up towards the mountain.

From Warwoman Dell, alternate access points make an intersection here. Marking the end of this section is Dick's Creek Falls wherein it merges with the Chattooga River Trail. Making a crossing prior to returning parallel to Chattooga, the trail moves away from the river. Yet you may also stay and do some outdoor activities at the river where kayaking serves as an attraction in the area. The west area of the river where a bridge crosses over it also completes this section of the Appalachian Trail.

Swim With Stingrays in Hamelin Bay, Western Australia

If you ask people what kind of marine creatures they would most prefer to swim with, Stingrays usually come in dead last. Not surprisingly, dolphins and whales came in towards the top.

But why is this? Why are stingrays so far down everyone's list of preferences? Are they not cute? Are they not friendly? Are they scary? A friend of mine was certainly scared by a rather large ray once. There he was, relaxing on the water on his air mattress, when he noticed the water go very dark underneath him. Before we could alert him to what was going on, he realised for himself that he was not alone in the water. It was the first time we'd seen someone almost levitate and walk on water.

AUGUSTA

But put your goggles on, and take a look under the water, and maybe you'll change your mind about these misunderstood creatures. What if you could find a place where the stingrays are so friendly and tame that they will casually swim along side you, and on some occasions even feed out of your hand? What if you could do this at a local south west beach, with no cost, no huge crowds, and no appointment needed?

Hamelin Bay in Western Australia, around 20km north of Augusta, is well known for it's stingrays. The number and size of them are amazing. It's not uncommon to see some that are between 1 and 2 meters across. They have a habit of swimming around snorkelers at fairly close range, and certain times of the day they congregate around the boat ramp and feed off the scraps left by fisherman.

The combination of the friendly stingrays, plus the interesting fish and plant life in the bay make it a great snorkelling spot, whatever your swimming level. There are shallow points for those who like to stay close to shore, as well as some great rocks and even shipwrecks for those that want to go out much further. Whatever your preference, the water is usually very clear and calm.

There are no tours or anything, you can just turn up and swim with them. Just bring some bathers, a snorkel set, and you're on your way. It's another one of life's simple pleasures in the south west of Western Australia.

How to Buy a Home Without Bank Financing Using Subject To or Owner Financing Techniques

What is "Subject To"?

Subject To refers to a form of financing where the purchaser buys a home "Subject To" all encumbrances (including but not limited to existing mortgages, back taxes, liens, etc.). Most commonly when you purchase a home utilizing the "Subject To" method, you can expect that the existing mortgage will be what you are taking over. So you would be purchasing the home "subject to" the terms of the existing mortgage, leaving it in place.

AUGUSTA

This method is used largely in situations where the home seller is unable to sell their home using conventional means or they need to sell quickly. Because there is no need to obtain new financing, the process can be completed very quickly (in as little as 2-3 days). Obtaining a new mortgage is typically the most time consuming portion of the purchase process. You have to go through the entire approval process, qualifying for the mortgage, providing numerous documents, etc. With "subject to" financing none of this is necessary, in fact there is no need to utilize a new bank at all.

Let me outline how this would work in the real world. You must first find a seller that is motivated to sell their home. Keep in mind there are many reasons a seller becomes "motivated", not all of them are financial. A seller that needs to upsize or downsize can become motivated. Military sellers are prime candidates to become motivated, as often times they are given short notice to relocate. Sellers facing a divorce often become motivated because they just want "out". Individuals who have received a job offer in another city or state will often become motivated. You get the idea. Be creative and you will soon be able to spot a motivated seller a mile away.

After you have identified your motivated seller, you meet with them to explain what the benefits of working with you to sell their home is. You explain it in the most comprehensive format, which is calling it "Owner financing". There is very little difference between "subject to" and owner financing". I will explain this shortly. Everyone has some concept and understanding as to what "owner financing" is. This will help open the dialog and offer a level of explanation. Many times sellers are behind on their payments and you can explain by selling the home to you will improve their credit scores and avoid a foreclosure on their record by taking over their payments and paying on time. If they are not behind, then identify what it is that they are trying to accomplish, and explain how selling to you will help them accomplish this goal (fast sale, highest offer, no need to repair etc.).

After they agree, you need to sign a contract stating that you are buying the home for a purchase price of at least the payoff amount (most times this is an adequate offer). Remember you are offering them a quick sale. The contract must state that you are buying the home "subject to the existing financing", and that all parties understand that the mortgage will remain in the sellers' name.

This raises the next most common question I get asked, "If the mortgage is still in the sellers name, how am I the owner?". I am glad you asked! Much like the title to your car, a deed shows ownership of a specific property. If you sell your car what do you do to transfer ownership? That's right you sign over the title. Likewise, when a homeowner sells their home, they sign over the deed. The deed and the mortgage are two separate documents. The deed shows ownership, the mortgage indicates who owes the bank money. The bank wants something of value to ensure that they will get the money paid back that the borrower owes. That is why a bank puts a lien on the property (thus the term "subject to" the mortgage). Are you starting to get the idea here? Exciting huh? You can actually buy a home without getting a new loan, paying loan origination fees, or all of the other garbage fees necessary to close on a home with a new lender. So of course you are still subject to fulfill the obligations of the original loan agreement or the bank will have the right to foreclose on the property if payments are not made.

I told you earlier there were minor differences between "subject to" and "owner financing, so let's go over them now. First and foremost a true "owner finance" would not have an existing mortgage. The seller would own the property free and clear. So really it comes down to who you send the payments to. If the seller owns the property free and clear, you are safe to make payments to the seller. If you are buying "subject to" the existing mortgage, you do not ever want to make payments to the seller. You want to send them directly to the bank so that you know that the payment has been made. Why? Because if for some reason you send the payment to the seller and they decide not to make the payment to the bank, then you risk having the bank foreclose on the home through no fault of your own (except not listening to me!). Secondly with "subject to" the payments, interest rate, and terms are already set. With a true "owner finance", this would all be negotiable (I recommend you start with 0% financing).

Next, the closing attorney or escrow agent (title company in some areas), is responsible for carrying out the agreements in your contract. You want to work with a knowledgeable, investor friendly agent to perform these tasks. They will do a title search. This is imperative, as this will disclose any and all mortgages, liens, back taxes, etc. Remember you are taking this home "subject to" all of these things. The purchase agreement (contract) is written exactly like any other purchase agreement. You just need to add the important verbiage that directs the closing agent of your wished (see above).

This is an exceptional way to buy a home without obtaining new financing. You do not have to be "qualified" to utilize this method of financing, because the loan has already been issued. All you do is set up automatic payments to go directly to the bank. Everyone is happy. The seller sold their home, you the buyer purchased a home without new financing, and the bank although they are unaware continue to receive their payments and interest (after all that is what they are in business to do). So now that you know an alternate method of purchasing your own personal home or investment properties, there is no need to participate in the so called "credit crunch" Happy buying!

The Evolution of Trash Services

Trash service has always been a need, but it can came a long way since those early times when trash was just dumped wherever. We have found many ways to make trash removal healthier and better for the environment. There have been great strides in trash service that have brought to our civilized and well managed methods that we have today.

In the Beginning

AUGUSTA

There has always been trash of some kind. Though it is not documented, the early civilizations probably just dropped trash anywhere. Of course, their trash would have been biodegradable and probably just broke down and was absorbed back into the earth. It was nothing like the many man-made products we throw away today.

In Greece, in 500 B.C. there was a municipal dump where everyone would dump their trash. The Mayans also had a trash dump. In early Europe, people would simply dump trash in the gutters. Some people would burn their trash as a heat source or go through the trash of wealthy neighbors for food scraps or other items that they would reuse.

The Next Step Up

It was in the 1800s when the first actual trash service began. Horse drawn carts were used to help carry away the trash that was shoveled off the streets.

In the 1900s some small towns developed places where pigs were housed and fed the trash collected from the town. These were called piggeries. Piggeries functioned well and many places still had one as late as the 1960s. However, in the 1950s many pigs in the piggeries got sick and laws were passed that all garbage must be cooked before being fed to the pigs.

Also during the 1900s, larger cities had dumps. Most trash was brought to the dump by each individual, but some areas had collection which was done by a horse drawn cart. The trash in the dumps was usually burnt.

More Modern Times

As cities became more industrialized, there became a need to keep the streets and the water sources clean. Vehicles were built to collect trash. The first trucks were just open and trash often spilled out of them. Later on vehicles with compactors came along to make the trash service collection more sanitary.

Today there is municipal garbage collection which collects your trash right at your curbside. In some places you may use a dumpster where you put your trash into a large bin and a truck comes and collects it. Trash dumps are sanitary and many different policies help to ensure that trash is kept separate from ground water and other water sources, in addition, to being kept away from the population and posing a health threat.

In addition, recycling centers also help with trash service. Most cities offer a recycling service where you can set out your recyclables and have them picked up just like your trash.

The strict laws and standards, today, have ensuring that trash service operates like a very well oiled machine. You will not find trash being dumped in the streets and raging illnesses attributed to unsanitary trash disposal. Trash service has came a long way from the beginning.

Jasper Johns - An American Pop Artist

Contemporary American pop artist Jasper Johns was born in 1930 in Augusta, Georgia. Raised in South Carolina, from a young age Jasper Johns wanted to be an artist. After attending three semesters at the University of South Carolina, he headed for New York in 1948 to attend the Parsons School of Design, where he attended for one semester before enrolling in the army and subsequently serving for two years during the Korean War. Johns' friendship with artist Robert Rauschenberg was an important influence in his artistic career. His other friends of the time included composer John Cage and choreographer Merce Cunningham.

Johns' early work of the 1950s displays a new style which contributed to many further art movements including Conceptual, Minimal, and Pop art. This new style brought out by Johns was said to oppose the expressionistic abstraction of a generation earlier. The characteristic work of this period is the "Flag" (1954-55) depicting the American Stars and Stripes flag. The technique employed for this work was the dripping encaustic paint on a collage made from commonly found materials such as newspaper. This was followed by "White Flag" (1955) which is a large monochrome version of the previous work. These were followed by plenty of other versions of the initial flag painting. These include the oil on paper work, "Flag" (1957) and "Three Flags" (1958) that features three canvases superimposed on one another in reverse perspective.

AUGUSTA

The choice of the American flag represents "things the mind already knows," according to Jasper Johns. Other familiar objects employed in Johns' paintings include stenciled numbers, targets, and beer cans. Another suggestion made for the choice of the American flag has been the autobiographical element, as Jasper Johns was named after Sergeant William Jasper who raised the flag during the Revolutionary War. However, the significance of the flag is still open to reinterpretation with yet another suggestion made that the flag, being a flat object, represents the relative shallowness of modernist art.

Other characteristic examples of John's work include "Map" (1962), "Numbers", "False Start" (1959), "Study for Skin" (1962), "Figure Five" (1963-64), "Painting with Two Balls" (1960) and "Seasons" (1986).

The '70s were characterized by more monotone works initiated by the prints Johns created to accompany writer Samuel Beckett's text, "Fizzles". The '80s witnessed further change in his paintings, with autobiographical elements appearing, and more sentiments being displayed as opposed to his earlier view that he was unconcerned with emotions.

Johns' works have commanded great prices. "False Start" was purchased by Anne and Kenneth Griffin, private collectors, in 2006 for  million. It's the highest price paid for a painting by a living artist.

Jasper Johns remains one of the foremost figures in American pop art. His focus on popular imagery, and his experiments that push the envelope of painting, sculpture and printmaking set the standards for future experimental artists. The fact that his paintings are part of almost any major collection of a museum highlights his influence and importance in the contemporary art scene. Though he is often classified as a Pop artist, his work displays characteristic of Neo-Dadaism.

Nigerian Celebrities and Brand Promotion

Various Blue Chip companies in Nigeria, operating in diverse spheres such as Manufacturing, Telecoms, Banking, Consumer services are springing up with fresh concepts that would put them ahead of their rivals. The post Independent epoch (1960 till date) has witnessed the continuous influx of companies both local and International into the marketing arena, eager to compete in the Nigerian open market Championship. An annual event held to determine which companies products/services thrived the most in the Nigerian Market. Their performances were rated by the profits posted during the Companies Annual General Meetings. A few who started the race at its inception are still in contention for the golden prize, while their counterparts have fallen along the way side.

The competition to dominate the Nigerian market has grown tougher with each passing year, and companies have deployed various marketing strategies "in and out of the box" in a bid to steal the market. For example the regular use of promos by companies luring customers to purchase their products and ultimately wining whooping monetary rewards and an array of consolation prizes, game shows/lottery, where juicy monetary packages are up for grabs by customers who participate and obey stipulated instructions have become rampant. These 'over flogged marketing strategies', have propelled a few to look towards the direction of the celebrities (especially those in the Entertainment circuit) to invoke a Sales- Reload needed to thrust them far ahead of their competitors.

AUGUSTA

In the eyes of the public, celebrities are seen as a rare unique breed of Homosapiens who move about with an aura of greatness, and possess the golden touch capable of transforming the ordinary into extra-ordinary within a splitting second in their respective chosen career. They possess the power to keep ones eyes riveted on them, igniting the star struck syndrome on their fans. They easily stir up excitement in the crowd with some cringing their necks much to the nerves discomfort, in a bid to catch a glimpse of them. This phenomenon is best described during live concerts performed by popular artistes when the crowd goes into a frenzy, with the babes of course screaming their names(if they are guys) and shouting "I Love You X", amazingly shedding tears, and sometimes passing out or nearly passing out at the slightest physical contact with the stars or otherwise.

The posters of these great men and women who wield the financial wands in their hands are kissed and talked to by their fans who have them hung in a corner of their rooms, and dream endlessly about how good they could have been together, profess their undying love for them, adoring, idolizing them, thereby provoking the good Lord to jealousy. Celebrities by reason of their popularity naturally possess the power to influence consumers to swap loyalty to the endorsed brands, and make such adverts to linger continually in their memory data banks. On a wider pedestal, celebrities such as James Earl Jones endorsed "CNN", Catherine Zeta- Jones "Elizabeth Arden", and Pepsi has continually made use of International top rated footballers and artistes to promote its brand.

In Nigeria, the concept of using celebrities to promote various brands was at its lowest ebb prior to 2007. Advertising companies on the pay roll of rival companies delightfully used "Unknown faces" to try and lure potential customers into purchasing the products being projected or to maintain customers loyalty or initiate a cross carpeting to the use of the displayed products, through the Electronic media(dominantly TV).

4 REASONS WHY CELEBRITIES WERE HARDLY USED TO PROMOTE BRANDS BACK IN THE DAYS

1. IGNORANCE: Most Advertising practitioners were not conversant with the concept of using celebrities to promote the brands. They were hired to simply advertise, showcase the products of their clients to viewers, which they did. They were not deeply involved in any marketing strategy to out do brands from rival companies.

2. INDIFFERENCE: A few were rather indifferent, adopted a lackadaisical approach to the concept, since they believed that the use of celebrities had no effect on the quality output of the adverts produced, so why bother using them?

3. UNWILLINGNESS TO SPEND: Most Clients were unwilling to pay the fees required to engage the services of the celebrities to promote the brands in the advert (which was not as expensive when compared with what obtains today). Only a few consented to the soliciting and eventual use of celebrities such as the now defunct Universal Trust Bank (UTB advert: Chief Zebrudaya and Jegede of the New masquerade TV series fame), Visine eye drops (Regina Askia), Morning fresh (Bimbo Oloyede), Panadol ( Ovuleria, Akpena in the TV series of the New masquerade), New Elephant Blue detergent (Chief Zebrudaya, Samanja)

4. LOW COMPETITON: A handful of companies with rivals producing brands in the same sector existed. In the 80's we basically had two known rival brands of products drawn from different spheres for eg Detergents "Omo and Elephant Blue", Soaps "Lux and "Cussons Imperial leather", Soft drinks "Coke and Pepsi", Cars "Peugeot and Volkswagen". On the other hand a few companies produced brands that went unchallenged such as Okin biscuits, Peak Milk, Maltina, Robb, Thermocool fridge/freezers.

The game has now changed with Companies eagerly parting with cash to ensure that celebrities are effectively used to promote their brands via the electronic media (still dominantly TV) based on its large viewership base, and in some cases the Print media is also used.

LIST OF NIGERIAN CELEBRITIES USED IN BRAND PROMOTION:

1.Omo detergent (Adesuwa Oyenokwe - TV presenter )

2.Chivita ( Jide Kosoko- Nollywood actor)

3.Chi Exotic (Sunny Neji - Artiste)

4.Peak Milk ( kanu Nwankwo- International footballer)

5.Hollandia Milk( Ali Baba- comedian, Julius Agwu- comedian, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde- Nollywood actress, Bukky wright- Nollywood / TV actress)

6.Lux (Genevive Nnaji- Nollywood actress)

7.Amstel Malta (Dakore Egbuson- Nollywood actress)

8.Onga (Kate Henshaw- Nuttal- Nollywood /TV actress)

9.Robb( Julius Agahuwa- International Footballer)

10.Harpic ( Nkem Owoh- Nollywood actor, Bukky Wright- Nollywood/TV actress, Joke Silva- Nollywood / TV actress )

11.La Casera (Ikponwonsa Osakhiodua- Radio presenter)

12.Power Fist (D'Banj- Artiste)

13.Ok Sweets ( Osita Iheme, Chinedu Ikedieze, both Nollywood actors)

15.Guinness (Tu Face Idibia- Artiste)

16.Zain (Bryan Okwara- Mr Nigeria)

17.Yoyo Bitters ( Jide Kosoko- Nollywood actor)

18.Damatol (Desmond Elliot- Nollywood actor)

19.Lagos State Government on the payment of Tax ( Kate Henshaw- Nuttal, Bimbo Akintola, Funke Akindele, (all Nollywood/TV actresses, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God)

20.Malta Guinness (Basket Mouth- comedian)

21.Etisalat ( Banky W- Artiste)

22.Glo (RMD, Joseph Yobo, John Utaka, D'Banj, Ego, Madam Kofo, Sunny Neji, Funke Akindele, Basket Mouth, Ramsey Nouah jnr , Monalisa Chinda- Richards, Ini Edo and many more

It is a fact that some customers aware of the mouth watering take home pay tucked safely in the kitty of the celebrities, are not moved by the adverts believing that more often times than not the celebrities do not use those products at all, opting rather to use products from rival companies or those made by companies in other countries that are yet to be established here. Regardless of the hype made these days about their presence in the adverts, having them endorse the products does not automatically bestow a "snail proof seal" on the sale of the products. For one, it is germane that the celebrity being used must ideally fit the brand that is being projected, other wise known as the "product match". Therefore factors such as physical appearance, charisma, credibility, acceptability, attraction sparks between the celebrity and the target consumers, are fundamental and cannot be waived aside, in order to generate not only the customers interest in the product but also to take practical steps in purchasing it.

For example the use of Nkem Owoh (male) in the Harpic advert was a mismatch. As a norm in Nigeria, men do not clean toilets at home, since it is regarded as part of the domestic duties of a woman. Hence the target audience to promote any toilet cleaning products are "women". The use of the celebrity was hinged on outstanding success recorded as a Nollywood star, hence they felt his popularity would effectively promote the brand and tremendously boost sales. They must have realized that using him was a wrong move as women considered it as a mere advertorial propaganda to make them buy the product. His stepping aside brought on board the remarkable Bukky Wright, though following her predecessor's formulaic advert. Women easily warmed up to her, and the stereotyped message became realistic, casting out earlier doubts as to the product's effectiveness which had lingered on in their minds prior to the celebrity swap. Joke Silva has also taken over the brand promotion reins from he,r regrettably with the monotonous advert. Imagine using a man for a diapers advert, or one aimed at promoting a range of baby or cosmetic products! No matter how good looking the man is, no matter how humorous the advert turns out to be, at best it would translate into a well packaged splitting seconds side show applauded by the women folk.

The impact Akin ( Chinedu Ikedezie) and Pawpaw (Osita Iheme) made in promoting "OK Sweets" would not have been the same if an "adult looking" celebrity had taken a shot at it. Children regard the duo as "Children stars" to whom they can relate with, though naive about their real ages, or their inability to comprehend that they are "little men" with child like facial and physical features who have lit up the lives of Hollywood fans. Children have gladly embraced the products prompting their parents to purchase the treasured sweets.

"Etisalat", a Telecoms company that made its debut into the highly competitive Nigerian Telecoms market in 2008 was faced with the reality of battling with the three major players "MTN", " ZAIN" and "GLO", though not under rating the existence of others who could give them a run for their money such as Starcomms, Multi Links, Visa Phone, Reltel , Intercellular. They had hitherto resorted to marketing aggressively, with various adverts spearheaded by unpopular faces promoting their brand via the electronic and print media. A break could have been termed to have been achieved when "Banky W", the sensational R n B artiste with the hit track "Ebutte- Metta" which made waves in the music front was used to promote the brand. His smooth velvety voice and the closing lyrics "080,0809ja for life" did the trick. Nigerians took a great liking to the song and in different quarters, children and adults were heard reeling out the "0809ja for life song", soaring the Etisalat brand to higher heights.

Celebrities can be used to introduce a new brand, break the cycle of sales stagnancy that had hitherto held the product bound, and dispel nose diving sales rumors being peddled by rivals. The use of celebrities sometimes has a devastating effect on sales where the celebrity endorses one brand and is seen using the competitor's, or suffers a major set back in his/her profession. Whether the sole aim of using Nigerian celebrities in adverts to promote the companies brands, with a view to achieving the prior set projected sales profit and even surpassing same has been attained, lies coded on the mysterious sales card which the companies have held securely in their hands abiding doggedly by the principle of "for our eyes only".

Free Books On The Kindle Vs Free Books On The Nook - Which Has More? What's The Difference?

A big point of contemplation when shoppers choose between the Nook or Kindle is the amount of free content that is available for each device, and how easy it is to get it. Let's compare free content for the Kindle vs free content for the Nook to uncover the big differences.

barnes and noble book store

The EPUB Issue

BARNES AND NOBLE

Many people will scoff at the Kindle and tout the virtues of the Nook because Barnes and Noble devices allow usage of the epub file.

The truth is, however, an epub file can easily be read on the Kindle. The user will have to convert the file to a readable file on the Kindle, however. This can be done with a freely downloadable software called "Calibre".

Secondly, Kindle files are becoming more and more readily available at free ebook sources like "Project Gutenberg".

However, there is still a big difference in the abilities of the two with Library Books, and this is where the "epub issue" lies.

Library Books

Epub files checked out from the local library on Overdrive have a DRM attached to the media, making it illegal to convert files from epub to another format, and also not possible to do in Calibre. There are ways to strip the DRM, but they are illegal.

Amazon has recently worked out a deal to offer library books for the Kindle within local library websites. These are less numerous than EPUB files at the moment, however. Just how many more will be added by Amazon is yet to be seen.

So this is where people may have issue with the Kindle. There are less options available in the public libraries than for the Nook.

Wireless Library Book Download For the Kindle

In order to download a book from the library on the Nook, one must download and install Adobe Digital Editions and register the Nook with the software. The book is then downloaded into the software, then is manually dragged and dropped into the Nook after hooking it up via USB.

Kindle has a wireless delivery feature for library books. Also books can be transferred via USB. This is done by being redirected to your Amazon account, and Amazon itself delivering the book.

Lending Books Feature

Both the Kindle and Nook allow for lending books to friends or family for up to 14 days. Not all books are lendable, it is up to the publisher to give these rights or not.

Free Samples Of Books

Amazon and Barnes and Noble both allow for "testing" a book out before purchasing it. Both have a "download free sample" feature on their ebook online stores.

On can see the features of the Kindle and Nook for free reading material are very similar, however the subtle difference is in the amount of epub files available within a local library website. It's apparent, however, that there is plenty opportunity for both devices to read free content.

Frenemies by Megan Crane - Book Review

Just imagine how you would feel if you walked in on your boyfriend kissing your friend. That is what happened to Augusta Curtis, better known as Gus.

Everything seemed to be going great for Gus. She had a secure job, a couple of good friends and a new boyfriend, Nate, who she has been dating for about four months. One day she stopped by to visit Nate and that is when she discovered the unimaginable.

AUGUSTA

Frenemies is defined as "the friend who gives you the sweetest smile to your face, while holding the sharpest knife to your back". What does Gus do about this situation with Nate and her friend, Helen?

Gus is approaching her thirtieth birthday and figured it was time to grow up. That is until all of this happened. She really does want some kind of revenge but her friends don't like this idea and they seem to be acting strange. Gus feels like she is going backwards to her teenage years instead of growing up.

Does this situation prevent Gus from growing up?

Megan Crane does a wonderful job of making the reader feel the emotions that Gus is going through. On one side she is betrayed by someone who she thought was her friend and on the other is Nate who really fits the definition of a "frenemy". The characters are well drawn and it won't take you long to see how Helen can start to get on your nerves. The author does a good job of getting the main point across - in order to make something happen you have to be able to understand yourself first. This book makes for a quick and entertaining summer read and it is one you will not want to put down. Be sure to add Frenemies to your reading list.

Marble Chess Sets: Where To Order

Marble chess sets have been a favorite among people since ages. Earlier kings and nobles use to play this game with the pieces and board made up of high quality marble. In fact, skilled artisans were hired specially to carve out exquisite pieces of marble chess.

barnes and noble

Today even after so many years, chess made up of marble continue to impress people with its charming aura, hence, these are ordered from all over the world to either play or use it as an interesting decorative item at home.

BARNES AND NOBLE

When it comes to marble chess sets, there are two destinations which are looked upon as the best marble chess set manufacturers, namely, Pakistan and Mexico. These two places are the world leaders in the manufacturing of chess pieces made up of marble. Karachi and the near by areas in Pakistan host a well-established marble industry.

Besides, there is no dearth of skilled artisans and craftsmen who render exquisite pieces of marble each time, be it chess or other marble decoratives.

Similarly Puebla in Mexico, is another major marble chess set producer. Quite like Pakistan, here too, these sets are made by mixing marble and onyx together. In fact, the sizes and weight of the chess pieces too are similar, for example- the game sets available in both the countries are available in the general sizes of 8x8, 12x12, or 14x14 and a 14x14 chess set of both the places weighs somewhere around 18 pounds only.

Though, the difference between the two is that game sets of Pakistan are a lot more expensive than the ones made in Mexico. This is because Mexico being nearer to US, the shipping charges are much less than the shipping costs of ones ordered from Pakistan. Besides, the packing of sets made in Pakistan are much more elaborate than Mexico. As Puebla made sets are offered in cardboard boxes, while Karachi made chess pieces are delivered in velvet and satin done cases.

Buying Organic Products for Skin Problems

Most of us have already heard about the many health benefits of organic treatments for skin diseases. Organic skin treatment products contain natural ingredients and omit the use of chemical substances and preservatives. These products are better for your skin and usually do not cause any irritation that some chemical base products can. Since these products do not have any chemical additives and preservatives they are better for you.

Before you buy a product that you think is an organic skin treatment. You need to first find out what products are truly considered to be "organic". Just because a product is labeled as "organic", it actually doesn't mean that it actually is organic. In fact, since the certain requirements for labeling products is very loose, you might end up buying a product that actually includes the chemicals that you are trying to avoid. In order to keep this from happening you need to understand a few things about the "organic" claims.

AUGUSTA

First you need to check the first three ingredients carefully. In order for it to be organic it must contain at least 73% of the natural ingredients. Some companies get around this by using 75% of water on the product, thus, sliding down the requirements radar. If the first ingredient is water, then it could actually mean that the product is made up of 90% of the water while the remaining percentage could only mean that it is a mixture of essential oils, preservatives, and other chemicals.

You should read the label for any hidden chemical additives. A product may claim that is it natural, however, many of the additives may actually be synthetic chemicals that are from natural products. This is very important to know and can make all the difference when you really trying to go organic.

You should be wary of the miracle claims that the organic products offer. If a product claims that it is a cure, then you may want to avoid these products. Just because the product contains natural ingredients, it doesn't mean that they will actually be absorbed readily by your skin. Like most health regimens, the real benefits are actually achieved when used together with healthy habits like having a good diet and drinking plenty of water.

Now that you understand how to look for real organic skin care treatments you can now reap the benefits of having a skin care treatment the natural way. The natural way is always the better way!

Sports Psychology and Visualisation - Minds-Eye of the Tiger

Well, let us be honest, Tiger Woods is unlikely to win 'Husband of the Year' in the near future but how do you rate his chances of winning the Masters when he returns to competitive golf after nearly five months away from the game?

Tiger Woods is one of the most recognisable figures in the world, known to sports fans and non-sports fans alike. As an outstanding golfer, he's no stranger to media attention but after a very public scandal, he knows the eyes of the world will be on him for different reasons. With media and public attention focussed on his personal life, will he be able to remain focussed on his golf?

AUGUSTA

In terms of career victories, Woods is in third position in the all-time PGA Tour rankings, with only Sam Snead and Jack Nicklaus ahead of him, so his ability as a player is beyond question. However, he has twice before come back to the game after a lengthy lay-off and with mixed results. In 2006 his performance suffered after the death of his father but in 2008 he won, despite playing on a seriously injured knee. This highlights how important it is for competitive sports players to be mentally prepared as well as physically prepared before making a return to play.

Mind Control

American golf writer Ian O'Connor believes that Tiger Woods' return to golf will create unprecedented interest in this year's Masters at Augusta. With this being the case, it begs the question why Woods should choose such a major event to make his return? According to former golf pro Arnold Palmer, Augusta is in fact a wise choice as the venue affords the organisers, and the players, a great deal of control over external factors that might affect the game.

"Augusta is the one place in the world where you can really have control. They will control everything from the crowds to the situation that will be facing Tiger" - Arnold Palmer

A mentally prepared competitor knows that worrying about external factors out with their control is counterproductive. But, with the potential for intrusive media interest, Tiger Woods no doubt views Augusta as his best opportunity to focus on his game without distractions.

With external factors under control, Woods will then need to utilise a number of sports psychology techniques to remain in control of internal factors.

Visualisation

Tiger Woods will have played every hole on the course countless time through visualisation. He will know the best course of action to take under every set of circumstances - no shot he plays on the day will cause a surprise (not to him anyway!), allowing him to feel in total control of every aspect of his performance. He will not only have seen every shot in his mind's-eye, he will have felt every tiny detail of his body position through every swing he takes, and he will have heard the sound of the ball as it rolls into the cup each time.

Positive self-talk

When you already know that not everyone in the crowd is on your side, positive self-talk becomes invaluable. An ability to boost your own confidence and to keep yourself motivated, even in a potentially negative environment, allows you to remain totally focussed on the job in hand.

Positive mental attitude / Winning mentality

Tiger Woods knows what he is capable of, he knows he has prepared, he knows he is ready, and he knows he is in winning form. Positive thoughts lead to positive actions - he'll be letting his actions do the talking.

"I can promise you he's not going to come out if he is trying to play his way into shape, especially at Augusta - he will be ready, mark my words" - Jay Townsend, BBC golf pundit

Having recently apologised to just about everyone on the surface of the earth - and their dog - he will be out there making sure he doesn't owe himself an apology for playing anything other than his best.

Nook Color Review: A Close Look at the Ebook Reader That Looks Like a Tablet

Since Barnes & Noble was way behind in the ereader market, releasing the Nook only in late 2009, it came as a pleasant surprise that only a year later a Nook Color edition is already out. Touted as the "reader's tablet", we'll find out in this Nook Color review, just how much of an ebook reader and a tablet the Barnes & Noble Nook Color is.

barnes and noble locations

Size and Design

BARNES AND NOBLE

If you're expecting an average-looking, run-of-the-mill ebook reader, then you'll certainly be impressed with the colored Nook, which could pass off as a tablet PC at first glance.

The first thing that makes it so different from our usual ereaders is its 7-inch, high-resolution LED-backlit IPS display. This type of display is in fact, the same type of display technology that Apple uses on the iPad and Mac. Barnes & Noble however, improved the IPS screen by using its VividView technology which laminates the screen coating and reduces the glare.

Nook Color is slightly bigger and heavier than the e-ink Nook. It weighs 15.8 ounces, and is 8.1 inches in length, 5 inches in width, and 0.5-inch thick. The front portion of the device consists of hard plastic while the back has a smooth, rubber backing.

Performance

Inside the Nook Color is a program which has its roots from the Android version 2.1, an operating system popular with many of today's tablets and smart phones. In this Barnes & Noble device, the Android-based software doesn't disappoint.

Those who have actually used this color ereader report of a zippy performance, a responsive touch screen, fast page turns, almost picture-perfect images, and crisp text. Even browsing through PDFs and picture galleries are said to be a total breeze.

New Features

In coming out with a colored ebook reading device, Barnes & Noble has also made sure that the attention that it's gotten so far is not all hype. The Nook Color not only has added functionality including web browsing, Pandora music app, email, and video playbacks, but it also works well with B & N's new features and technologies.

There's the new Nook Kids brand which promotes reading colored, illustration-packed children's ebooks on the Nook Color, NookFriends which lets users share heartwarming lines from books to friends and family via Facebook and Twitter. Then of course, Barnes & Noble also retains its book sharing feature, the exclusive LendMe technology.

Barnes & Noble Nook Color Review: The Verdict

The company has really gone out of its way to release an ebook reader that's not only sleek and feature-packed, but is reasonably-priced as well. At just 9, it's really quite a steal considering that you can already do a lot more than just ebook reading with it.

Still, the device could use with some significant improvements like a longer battery life. The 8 hours it offer pales in comparison with battery performance of other ereaders which use e-ink. Also, even with its VividView treatment, the LCD display could still get reflective and possibly even cause eye strain after a few hours.

In the end, it's all a matter of preference. If glossy magazines and children's books are high up on your family's list of reading fare, then it's all worth the 9 you spend especially with the additional tablet features it has. However, for long form reading of mostly text ebooks, e-ink ebook readers are still the better choice.

History of Women and Motorcycles

The motorcycle didn't spring full-blown into this world. Rather, it evolved from the earlier bicycle. Women loved bicycles for the mobility and freedom they allowed. In fact, Susan B. Anthony said, "The bicycle has done more for the emancipation of women than anything else in the world."

In the 1880s, bicycles were a huge fad. Then, in 1885, Gottlieb Daimler made one that had an engine. Strictly speaking, it wasn't a bicycle, because it had four wheels instead of two. Two were safety wheels. This bike went a magnificent and stately 12 miles per hour.

AUGUSTA

An idea was born, and soon other motorized bicycles were invented. Perhaps the first true motorcycle was a charcoal fired two -wheeler made in 1869 by Sylvester Roper of Massachusetts.

Within two decades, motorcycles were being mass-produced. The first such bike was the Orient-Aster, which was made by the Metz Company of Waltham, Massachusetts. This state clearly loved its bikes. Another early cycle was the beloved Indian, made by the Hendee Manufacturing Company in Springfield, Massachusetts. (Later, the company changed its name to Indian Motorcycles.)

In 1902, Harley Davidson sold its first three motorcycles, and soon there were dozens of manufacturers. They had names like Marvel, Exelsior, and Henderson. The Depression killed off all but Indian and Harley, and soon only Harley remained.

Women enjoyed the motorcycles as much as they had enjoyed bikes. After all, they were economical and fun. They also didn't have the stigma that they acquired later. Early riders were seen as adventuresome, not as outlaws.

In 1915, Indian motorcycles offered front and rear shocks. Since these cushioned the ride, people began to consider long-distance travel as a real option. That year, a mother-daughter team, Avis and Effie Hotchkiss, rode from New York to San Franciso. They didn't take the direct route. Instead, they meandered about, covering 5,000 miles.

The next year, two society women in their 20s, sisters Adeline and Augusta Van Buren bought a pair of Indian Powerplus Bikes. They were the first people ever to climb up and down Pike's Peak. They, too, completed a transcontinental ride. Their 3,300-mile trip took almost two months, and they had to contend not only with many unpaved roads, but also with social mores. Once they were arrested for publicly wearing trousers.

In the 1920s, Harley published a magazine called The Enthusiast. It sponsored Vivian Wales on a 5000 mile trip to a Harley factory. Another early motorcycle heroine was Bessie Stringfield, a.k.a. the Motorcycle Queen of Miami . She made 8 solo-cross country trips and was a motorcycle dispatch rider.

Bessie had started out with two strikes against her: she was a woman and she was African-American. At first, she couldn't even get a motorcycle license in Miami, Florida. However, a police officer interceded in her behalf.

Motorcycles were also used in wartime, which gave them a lot of public exposure. About 20,000 Harleys were used during the WWI. They were ridden by couriers, soldiers, and others.

As motorcycle popularity grew, it was only natural that some people became highly skilled in its use. They showed off these skills in motordromes, which had been around since the turn of the century but grew in popularity during the 1930s. A motordrome often advertised itself as "A Wall of Death."

Essentially, it was a giant barrel with a platform on top for viewers. They could look down on motorcyclists, who sped around the inside of the walls, held in place by centrifugal force. One of these early daredevils was Margaret Gast, who billed herself as "The Mile a Minute Gal." She was not the only woman daredevil. May Williams and Jean Perry also performed on the walls.

By 1940, the United States had its first women's motorcyle club, The Motormaids. Today, there are scores of such clubs. Anyone who wants more information about the history of women and motorcycles may want to check out the book Hear Me Roar: Women, Motorcycles, and the Rapture of the Road. I haven't read it, but I've read several descriptions of it and seen the table of contents. It looks like fun.

Pros and Cons of Vinyl Siding

You see it everywhere you go these days. Vinyl siding has become the siding of choice when it comes to re siding a home or siding a new house. But, like everything these days this type of siding has both pros and cons and knowing the good points and the bad points can help you decide if this kind of siding material is right for you.

The Advantages Of Vinyl Siding
Vinyl siding has many advantages that one should consider when thinking about re siding their home. To start with it is cheaper than wood. In today's economy when every penny counts, the cost of siding your home can be a very important consideration and this siding is one of least expensive types of siding on the market today making it highly attractive from the viewpoint of affordability.

AUGUSTA

Another advantage to this type of siding is that under most conditions it is extremely durable which means it will last you years upon years without you having to invest more money to re side your home. Durability is an important factor to consider when undertaking anything that is going to cost you a good deal of money.

Probably one of the best advantages of vinyl siding is that it requires little maintenance. This material is manufactured to withstand the strong rays of the sun year after year without fading so it never needs repainting. A simple washing with a hose will take care of most of the maintenance needed for this type of siding. It also comes in a wide variety of colors and grains including siding that looks like log or cedar siding so no matter what style of home you have you can find the style and color you want.

The Disadvantages Of Vinyl Siding
Probably one of the most important disadvantages to vinyl siding is that not all of this type of siding is created equal. While choosing a siding made from this material can add both beauty and style to your homes there are some poorer grades that will simply look cheap and won't be at all what you expect. So when choosing this type of siding make sure you choose a good grade so that your home will look it's best.

Another problem is that vinyl siding unlike wood can't be stained. Which means that should a piece or two of your siding become damaged sometime in the future you may not easily find the grain or exact color still available for replacing the damaged pieces. This being the case you might want to purchase a few extra pieces that you can keep on hand should you need to replace a piece of your siding.

While choosing this type of siding can be an excellent choice like any other product on the market it does have it's disadvantages knowing both the advantages and disadvantages of this siding will help you to make the right choice for you and your home.

The Treatment Of Acne - Antibiotics

Acne is an area studied within dermatology, its cause, symptoms and treatment make up the area of study. The main trigger of acne in both the young and in adults, is all down to hormones and how they effect a unit within the skin. This unit that we speak of is made up of a hair, the hair follicle and a sebaceous gland. Acne will be seen on the surface of the skin - mainly in areas such as the face, neck, chest and back; its cause due to the overgrowth of a skin bacteria called propionibacterium acnes. This bacteria is normally found within the body, but only causes concern when its numbers increase; this happens due to an overproduction of sebum in which it feeds from. In turn, the hair's follicle is damaged at the lining and follicular parts enter the dermis; this causes inflammation in the form of acne.

In dermatology, antibiotics are used for the treatment of acne; their primary purpose being to reduce the amount of bacteria around the hair's follicles. As acne becomes a problem, the body responds by producing more white blood cells whose chemicals can be a further irritant to the skin; antibiotics also work to reduce these irritants. Third, the bacteria will cause more fatty acids within the sebum which causes further inflammation on the surface of the skin; antibiotics will try to reduce the numbers of fatty acids too. Let us take a look in more detail at the most common types of antibiotics used to reduce acne.

AUGUSTA

Tetracycline is the most used antibiotic for the treatment of acne. It is often advised to be taken twice a day in doses of 500mg until the acne has cleared considerably. After notable improvements, the amount taken is reduced by half or the patient will be taken off medication completely. It is always recommended to seek the advice from you doctor about the best treatment as some antibiotics are not suitable for those of a certain age or for pregnant women. A further note on tetracycline, is that teenage boys seem to recover less notably than others. This antibiotic is best taken on an empty stomach - of which growing teenage boys rarely have!

Erythromycin is another antibiotic that is used in dermatology and for the treatment of acne. It works well at combating the bacteria and reducing the inflammation of the skin's surface. It is preferred over tetracycline for the fact that it is better taken after food consumption as opposed to an empty stomach - making it a better option for teenage boys! Like tetracycline, it is taken in doses of 500mg or 250g twice daily and is safe to be used by pregnant women.

Doxycycline is generally prescribed when the previous two antibiotics are not tolerable by the acne sufferer or if they have failed to make improvements to the skin problem. Lower doses are used, normally 50-100mg twice in the day. Again, like erythromycin it is best taken with food or it can cause side effects such as nausea or vomiting.

It is important to remember that during the cure of acne through antibiotics, other symptoms can arise in other areas of the body such as candida in women. Always make sure that you fully understand the antibiotic treatment prescribed and can be aware of possible side effects as defined through the study of dermatology.

Network Marketing Time Management - How To Do More in Less Time

Why Is Network Marketing Time Management Important?

We all struggle with time management at times. Have you ever said to yourself that there isn't much time in the day? What about scheduling a list of productive activities only to spend the entire day doing the 80 percent of activities that produce only 20 percent of your work. In this brief time management skills review, we'll cover some of the ways to avoid spending your day doing nonproductive activities and actually improve your overall effectiveness. It is important to remember that you're only truly rewarded for productive activity in your network marketing business, and no, filing papers doesn't count as a productive activity. Therefore, your ability to successfully implement network marketing time management will propel you to success sooner.

AUGUSTA

Why is network marketing time management difficult?

One of the biggest challenges work from home professionals, home base business owners, network marketers and internet markets face, is the ability to effectively make the most use of time. Unfortunately, some people view their day as chunks of free time, in which they can simply, go through with a plan in mind. Maximizing the use of our time is absolutely essential in succeeding in your business.

What are the best ways to succeed in network marketing time management?

One of the best techniques for time management success is the classic 'to do list'. Although considered old school by some, a 'to do list' will greatly alleviate the many moving parts of a thriving network marketer's business. However, one of the challenges of a successful to do list is the difficulty of prioritizing the list correctly. You may have the best to do list in the world, but if your priorities are wrong, it will now help you improve your time management skills. Another challenge of a 'to do list' is the paralyzing effect it has some people. Some people get stuck in paralysis by analysis, and simply never take action, because their 'to do list' is too extensive.

As mentioned earlier, one of the best ways to successfully manage your to do list is to prioritize the most important action steps on your list. In the context of network marketing time management success, greatest priority has to be given to income producing activities. By income producing, I'm referring to daily action steps which entail building your business such as phone calls, prospecting, showing the business plan and following up with prospects.

On the other hand, we should avoid non income producing activities such as, checking email repeatedly, organizing your business cards, and other non-business related activities which are incidental or peripheral to your core success. Below are 3 quick tips to help you get the most out of your day:

1. Break down big goals into smaller manageable tasks
2. Benchmark regularly by ticking off smaller tasks as you complete them
3. Brainstorm what your weak areas are and delegate those tasks by outsourcing

All too often sincere, hard working people fall into the trap of time wasted, opportunities missed and momentum lost. This article will help you avoid this common pitfall to build a more successful business using improved network marketing time management skills. Thank you for reading this article and many successes in building your business.
