How to Sync Books With iTunes and Add Other eBooks to Your iPad

You can sync iBooks on your iPad with your computer by using iTunes. First you have to open iTunes and connect your iPad to your computer. This allows you to transfer books purchased on iBooks to your iPad. The benefit of doing this is to keep a backup copy of your book on your computer just in case it's deleted on your iPad.

One of benefits of storing books on your computer is the increased flash drive space on your iPad. If you are voracious reader and have a large eBook collection, you can save iPad drive space by offloading books you have read onto your desktop hard drive.

1) Click on your iPad name in the left hand panel (i.e. iTunes Source List).

2) Click the "Books" tab in the main iTunes panel.

3) You now have the option of syncing your entire book collection or choosing selected titles. If you only want to off load a few books on the iPad, click the "Selected Book" icon.

Saving other eBooks to your iPad.

Your iPad can also read other types of eBooks. Everything does not have to be purchased through iTunes. iBook uses the ePub format for digital books. Your iPad can read any type of ePub book from various online sellers. Books in ePub format will have the .epub file extension. A great source of eBooks is from Google Books and Project Gutenberg ( http://www.gutenberg.org ). Project Gutenberg is a great source for free, ePub encoded books. 4) iTunes will not load your eBook onto your iPad. You will find those files in the iBook app.

Handheld Ebook Reader Wars - eReader Formats Or eReader Discount

It is becoming increasingly clear that the big battle, in the handheld ebook reader war, is going to be more about eReader formats than eReader discounts.

Look at the facts. The Nook (Barnes and Noble) and the Daily Edition (Sony), recent releases in to the wireless section of the market, were in danger of cleaning up the very important Christmas sales. But, and it pains me to say it, they have given the Kindle a way back in the short term anyway.

The Nook and the Daily Edition, in fact the whole Sony range, have taken the massive step to include support not only for the Adobe PDF standard but also for the emerging ePub file format. When put like that, it does not seem that important but let me explain further without getting overly technical.

eReader formats allow the handheld ebook reader to handle (read) a specific file format. Perhaps the most common or recognizable to everyone would be the mp3 format. This is an audio format, so if your reader handles.mp3 you can play that format, not the best example I grant you but incidentally most devices do handle mp3. Now two formats that are popular not only for free content but as importantly used by online book stores to distribute text based content, are the.pdf and.epub formats.

It makes sense then, if you want to take advantage of the vast amount of public domain (free) content, that your device has support for these file formats. And you would assume also that manufacturers would be keen to give you these, after all without them you can not shop about for your content. But you may be surprise to learn this was not always the case. Both Sony and the Amazon Kindle started out using proprietary (their own protected) file formats, Sony used the.lrf extension and Amazon the.azw format. Neither offered the.pdf format and the Amazon Kindle offered the mobi pocket format, if you wanted.pdf support you had to turn over the extra to purchase the DX. Sony soon caught up from catching a cold, realized the error of their ways and released a free software update for their prs505 reader.

Then came the second generation handheld ebook readers. Kindle led the way, back in February 09, when they released their Kindle 2. More of an update than anything ground breaking really and again no natural support for ePub or surprisingly the Adobe PDF standard, opting instead to stick with mobi pocket for free content and once again, disappointing, their proprietary AZW standard.

Fast forward then to the back end of the summer, and in the midst of Amazon starting to offer eReader discounts, Sony unveiled their new Edition range. ePub and PDF support, matching Amazon the price of best sellers and increasing the number of titles available at the Sony Book Store. They also offered an entry level model packed with those features for an incredible 9.

Then hard on Sony's heels and later in the year Barnes and Noble brought out the Nook. Wireless connectivity, touch enabled navigation screen and importantly for consumers, epub and pdf support. Brave move as B&N are the biggest high street bookstore and make their money selling books and here they are saying go buy your books from any place you like.

I hope you can see now how it is very important to know which ereader formats are supported by the handheld ebook reader you're thinking of purchasing. Yes price is important, and a trip over to my ebook reader review site will help you in that area, but don't fall in to the trap of purchasing on the size of ereader discount given by the manufacturer over the ereader formats your chosen device will support.

Who Is Subject To Jurisdiction of the United States Military Court Martial

Generally, court martial jurisdiction is only exercised over active service members. (1) As long as a service member is on active duty, he or she is subject to the UCMJ. Jurisdiction normally ceases when the service member receives a valid discharge certificate. The Keys to a Barnes and Noble Book Signing

Dan Poynter wrote in Successful Nonfiction that authors should never host autograph parties. Instead of merely signing their books, the thing to do was offer "mini-seminars." In an August 27th, 2006 interview with Tee Morris for "The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy," Annie Hololob, Community Relations Manager for the Harrisonburg, VA Barnes & Noble, confirms the value of making your book signing into an event. (Tee himself apparently has a habit of staging sword fights during his book signings, which definitely livens things up.)If you want to have an event at a Barnes & Noble, the Community Relations Manager is the person to talk to. This is the person who knows whether the store's customers are the right market for your book, or whether you'd do better at a store in a different city. (My local Barnes & Noble, for instance, doesn't even have author events, just a children's story time.) This is the person whose good side you want to get on.

There are two important things you need before you start assembling your press kit and cultivating the CRM at your local Barnes & Noble, however. Without them, there's no way the store can carry your books. Large chain bookstores have to operate by certain rules in order to stay in business, and those rules may exclude you and your book for reasons that have nothing to do with your merits as a writer.

Distribution

In order for BN to order, stock, and sell your books, they have to be available through a wholesaler or distributor such as Ingram or Baker & Taylor--one BN already has a relationship with. That means BN can buy the book at a wholesale price, usually 40-60% off the cover price, without going to extra trouble to special-order it. If your book is traditionally published, there should be no problem with this. One of the reasons for choosing to go with a major publisher or established small press is that they are already BN Vendors of Record. The traditionally self-published, those like Dan Poynter who start their own publishing companies, can become Vendors of Record by filling out the BN Publisher Information Form.

The authors who run into real trouble in the distribution department are those with POD books. These books may be good-looking and high quality. They may even be available through Baker & Taylor or Ingram. But unless ordered in very high quantities, they are offered only for the retail price. BN's standard order when dealing with a new publisher is two copies of every title. Even an order of 30-50 books for a signing isn't going to provide enough of a profit margin to make it worth the bookstore's while. And because Print on Demand books are literally printed only when ordered, each copy is much more expensive to produce than a comparable mass-produced book.

Returns

The other thing that keeps POD books-and their authors-out of chain stores like Barnes & Noble is the lack of a returns policy. Bookstores expect to be able to return all unsold books to a publisher, and not to pay the publisher for any of the books until after they sell. Unsold books aren't even returned intact: the covers get ripped off and they're sent away to be pulped. (I kid you not. I was horrified to learn this, even after reading all those warnings about not buying books without covers.)

POD houses don't warehouse books and can't provide that kind of returns policy, and very few self-published authors are going to want to. But no matter how barbaric a practice pulping is, it's a fact of life at all major book outlets, and Barnes & Noble didn't invent it. Nor does a Community Relations Manager have the power to bend the rules about this, however flexible s/he may be about the form your signing takes if you can meet the store's requirements.

Alternatives

If you're a self-published or POD author and touring the major chain bookstores is something you can't live without, you can try to interest a traditional publisher in your book, though you need to make sure that you really own the book in its current form before you do this. (Most POD houses lay claim to the final, formatted version of your book, though the content remains yours.)

Or you can skip Barnes & Noble altogether and hold your book events elsewhere. Independent bookstores are often in a better position than large chains to take a chance on an author, though they, too, need to be able to buy the books at a low enough price to make a profit. Public libraries are almost always willing to accept the donation of a book or two and host a reading.

And, of course, if you make your living as a speaker, back-of-room sales may be your best bet and an opportunity to take advantage of the plus side of self-publishing and POD: getting to keep a far greater percentage of the book's retail price.

How did this fad come to be and how did this all start?

After sifting through so many blogs, articles and websites involving Silicone Bracelets, I have learned so many things about this inexpensive but powerful object, which I would like to share to everyone.

Contrary to what most people believe, it's not Lance Armstrong that started the fad. This accessory has been around since the 80's and if you knew about its humble beginnings, you will be surprised with how it turned out to be.

Silicone Bracelets were first used as accessories during the 80's. To be frank, it was never intended to be a fashion statement. During this time when women spent tons of money on hair spray and snake skin skirts, a kind of music was developed. It's a genre that was usually associated with society's young menaces and rebels. This genre was called "Punk Rock".

Punk Rock enthusiasts have always been what we would consider "Social Deviants" and as such, those kids didn't want to conform to the norms. They developed their own identity and created their own fashion.

They were the first to use this simple round rubber object as part of their clothing. As an anti fashion statement, these "Punks" wore black rubber bands on their wrists as they rocked their youth away. That is why it is quite surprising to see that almost everyone today is using the very accessory that was meant to deviate from what was considered a fad.

Then, between the late 80's to the early 90's, two rising teen pop stars rocked the world with their absurd fashion and rebellious attitudes. These two teen pop stars were Cindy Lauper and Madonna. Sometime during the early parts of their career, when their hair was still dyed pink and purple, they also wore Silicone Bracelets as part of their get up.

These two teen idols, just like the enthusiasts of Punk Rock never really conformed to the popular fashion of the time. They instead, influenced other teens to dress up like them. From hairstyle to fishnet stockings to Silicone Bracelets, teens emulated them and copied their fashion style. That's how these inexpensive items gained its popularity and got an entry ticket into mainstream fashion.

A few years later, sometime during the late 90's to early 2000, a rumor revolving around the cheap colorful items that teens were so fond of, spread that alarmed parents, educators and a lot of conservative adults. This urban legend was taken seriously by a lot of parents that Silicone Bracelets were banned from various High Schools around the United States.

This urban legend, involved a sex game called "Snap". According to legend, the game had a very simple rule, just snap a Silicon Bracelet from someone and depending on the color of the band you snap, you'll get sexual favors from that person ranging from hugging to sexual intercourse.

Of course, there's no truth to this rumor. At least that's what most teens would say. It was a foolish game to begin with and kids couldn't really do something like that. The Bracelet was too thick for one person to just snap from another person that it was an almost impossible game to win. Nonetheless, parents has serious concern over this rumor that the cheap accessory was banned.

Then, some time during the middle part of the first decade of the second millennium, Lance Armstrong wore his yellow Silicone Bracelet as a sign of his battle against Cancer and support to Cancer Victims and Survivors.

This was the first time that anyone used the cheap material for any kind of noble cause.

After Lance Armstrong introduced this object to the world as an icon to his noble objectives, everybody started following his example and started using Silicon Bracelets for many campaigns and awareness programs.

Today, you can see Silicon Bracelet with various patterns, logos and messages on them. It has been widely used since then not only for fashion but also a means to get important messages across to teens, students, employees and businessmen alike.

Rodney White - America's Hottest Artist - Move Over Andy Warhol

If you have ever watched The ABC sitcom "Freddie" and ABC's "Extreme Makeover Home Edition", you may have already viewed some of Rodney White's phenomenal art pieces. Once in a while something so unique, eye-catching and visually pleasing comes along that it just really grabs you. This is the case with the winning combination of color, rustic style, and timely messages that Rodney White has created.

One critic writes of Rodney White's work, "The most amazing aspect of this work is that it isn't created on a computer but on a canvas instead. I'm amazed by these wonderful typographical beauties. The retro feeling, grunch effect and nice color combinations make them really stand out. Most of his work contains meaningful messages. Rodney White was born in Augusta in 1976. He lived in Atlanta from 1997-2005, and then made the move to Brooklyn, New York where he works and lives. During his time in Atlanta, Rodney did attend a technical institute to study visual communications in 1999. In 2003, he had his first solo exhibition. It was a total surprise to me. My mom called while I was in the middle of painting to tell me and almost immediately after the images were shown my phones start ringing off the hook with calls from friends and family saying that they saw it and people congratulating me. It was a big deal the first time and big deal again. What was seen on the show were canvas transfers of my paintings."

If you ask Rodney what inspires him, he would say, "Everything. I see things everywhere and everyday that gives me some idea for my pieces. I love to visit flea markets and antique markets. I notice the natural aging of things around us. Billboard signs, buildings, packages, and aging paper catch my attention. I seek to replicate the rusting and decaying look of things I see."

Where did his desire to be an artist all begin? He claims that he has dabbled in art since his pre-kindergarten days. He tells the story of rushing through his class work so that he could be the first one back to the scrap paper box in the classroom. In fact, he admits that he would fill the blank pages in the front and back of encyclopedias because he thought, "Those sheets were put there for me."

When Rodney further explains his view on his own work, he shares his fascination with poetry, typography, advertising design and vintage signs. He says that by trying to encourage others to notice those things that he is, "learning, teaching, and inspiring." In describing his work and its connection to the past, he says, "The past has always been something that I've felt we could/should learn from, and advertising has always been a reflection of the desires and societal norms that are driven into the hearts and minds of consumers. Well...what if those driven desires became more positively influential on our minds and inner beings? Thus, giving us something to take into the way we live our lives, and approach the world around us."

Rodney has a love for the deterioration of things which includes objects and surfaces. He notices how things have developed and aged. He takes note of antique labels, old books and vintage posters which have that "experienced look." Because he believes that art will be around a long time, he feels the best way to leave messages behind is through art.

Rodney also says that he gets inspiration from music, other artists, poets, and literature. He enjoys music of all kinds and says, "I'm working on a slight taste for country. And that doesn't seem to be working out. It is much harder than I thought." Other artists that he admires are: Sabrina Ward Harrison, Rik Catlow, Anja Kroenke, Tim Marrs, and Ashley Wood. Among the poets he reads are Saul Williams and Sabrina Ward Harrison.

When speaking of his friends, Rodney says, "A lot of my paintings come from what I write often in my Journal/Idea books. A lot of times my friends and the people I meet say the most brilliant things and they sometimes never mean them the way I hear them. Lucky me I guess."

When asked about his interests, Rodney says, "I love furniture and dreaming up living spaces. Décor stuff. Movies, collecting and listening 2 music. Books (Angels, Aliens, Theology) and Writing. Learning to enjoy the small things about life - like walking in the sand barefoot. Riding my bike around the city. Daily getaways listening to my iPod. (I tend to really visit new places when I do this). Talking and making...connections with people. Learning about people and their stories. Everybody has them - not everybody has someone that wants to listen to them & DREAMING...Always Dreaming."

The Nook is the popular eBook reading device that is made by Barnes and Noble. While there are many other devices like this available, this one has quite a few advantages that are hard to find on other eBook readers. Let's take a look at them.

The best thing about this device is the lending feature. This means that when you buy a book you can lend it to your friend who also has a Nook for 2 weeks at a time. While your friend reads the book, you don't have access to it. This gives you the same advantage as buying books which you can give to friends to read for a period of time. This is a huge feature that other devices like this don't have yet.

It has not only the electronic ink screen but a small 3.5" color touch screen on the lower part of the device. This is where the navigation, keyboard, and other controls are. This gives the devices quite a bit of functionality since any controls can be added in the future.

This device runs on Android. There is the possibility of applications being developed for the nook taking advantage of the touch screen and electronic ink screen.

The Nook happens to have a music player. All the control for this are done on the touch screen. This isn't necessarily any better than other devices, but it's a great feature to have.

When you go to Barnes and Noble, you can browse any book there for an hour on your Nook. This gives you time to just sit back and read books on your Nook.

This does have a WiFi connection. There aren't any amazing things that can be done with this at the moment, but in the future having WiFi is a great advantage over not having it.

There is an expansion slot on the device for additional memory. This will let you load applications and keep your data stored on it without having to use the internet like on some devices.
