The Solution

BARNES AND NOBLE

Introducing the Barnes & Noble Nook. The Nook is in many ways better than the Kindle. In fact, its reviews have been on par, if not better than the Kindle. The Nook's discreet existence is no doubt a result of Amazon's huge marketing capabilities, but it is completely unjustified. The Nook is a serious option for those interested in getting a Kindle but want the color!

Let's take a look at the specs:

Amazon Kindle 3

Full Color: Yes
Dimensions: 7.7″(H) 4.9″(W) 0.5″(D)
Weight: 11.6 ounces
Display: 6" Monochrome E Ink Touch Screen
Battery Life: Up to 30 days
Recharge Time: 4 to 6 hours

Barnes & Noble Nook

Full Color: Yes
Dimensions: 7.7″(H) 4.9″(W) 0.5″(D)
Weight: 11.6 ounces
Display: 6" Monochrome E Ink Touch Screen
Battery Life: Up to 7 to 10 days
Recharge Time: 3.5 hours

The decision you have now is not cut and dry. Do you take full color display over battery life or vice versa? With every other aspect of the two devices being fairly similar, there really isn't much in it. What's great about the Nook is that magazines and chrildren's books are really brought to life with the color display. However if you're a serious newspaper reader and are more concerned about being able to keep the thing switched on constantly then the Kindle is for you. Although I must stress that a 7 to 10 day battery life is not to be shunned at!
