The 74th Masters golf tournament began on April 5 and continued till April 11 in Augusta, Georgia. This tournament is renowned for awarding the champion a green suit jacket. Also, this event is the only major to be hosted at the same venue every year. The winners of the Masters get a direct license to play in the tournament in the future. Among the four major golf events, the other three being the US Open, the British Open and the PGA Championship, the Masters comes first. Veteran golfer, Bobby Jones, helped in designing the Augusta National Golf Course and is credited with introducing the Masters Tournament.

The return of Tiger Woods: Tiger Woods returns after sex rehabilitation for several weeks. Back in 1997, when Woods won the Masters Tournament, he drew more than 20 million viewers. This year not only saw a larger gathering as compared to the previous season but also boosted television ratings.
The CBS claimed that the US spectators for Saturday's coverage were 33% more than for 2009, and Sunday's broadcast was higher by 36%. The number of spectators was less than the 20.3 million who watched Woods take the trophy in 1997, and also lower than the television viewership for his second Masters victory in 2001. However, CBS said that the coverage for the final round was the third-highest rated of any golf event since 1986.
3D coverage: The current year's event is unique in the sense that this is the first year when 3D coverage of the tournament was aired. Two hours of the golf tournament was broadcast by Comcast, in association with IBM.
